Freezer Baits

What do people keep in their freezers for bait? and how much would a "serious" Angler keep frozen for the winter?

So far I've got:

Runnydown - 1 x pack
Sandeels - 1 x pack
Squid - over a frozen kilo of (if I don't fish with it i'll eat it )
Mackerel Fillets - 4 of
Mussel - 2 packs of frozen

I have to admit most of that will be gone come the summers end - so what should I realistically be squirreling away for the winter months to save myself buying it all at the time?

I'm not including crab - it's like rocking horse poo to get hold of...if I can get I will use it

well at the moment i have in this one crab in tubs and bags ,and mussle ,and that isnt butter by the way

not much in that one yet plenty room for macky

LOL my piffling amount is pathetic then really !!!!

You obviously have your own freezer...I have to "make do" with space here and there.....

how many sessions does that roughly cover?

I'm not going to say how many mackrel I have ...but it will all get used up.

Apart from that I have a few boxes of squid for last minute trips.

Dont bother with crabs as if I need some I ask stephen to come fishing with me

The mackrel are been horded for easter skate trips as we can easily use 30kg in a weekend. They do turn up earlier on the west coast but are not reliable so we always take some untill mid may.

I also have frozen cooked prawns bought when they are on their last day of sell by .

you can add Razor fish to your list
Like Codseeker says depends how many times you will fish as to what you should store,as long as you have a bit of something in the freezer then just replace it after you use it.
The mussel,razor and squid can be reused even after its been defrosted,just stick it back in the freezer,I've got a ice cream box with my smelly stuff,mixture of razor,squid and mussel and new boxes of squid and razor.I've had more success using the old smelly stuff than the newly defrosted bait IMO

yup mate mussle is a bait that when ya collect it ,is suppose to be left for a day or 2 after shelled or even longer ,i have frozen mussle after defrosted and still had fish ,under rated bait some will say

I've caught more on lug and muscle than I have on any other bait. Still like my crab though to keep me in the running

i mussel and razor underated but i stock with all the freebies macky, razor,mussel, clam,if i can get get some nothing this year but ive just started so fingers crossed, then i would like to stock crab but all gets used in summer so i'll be paying through the nose for fresh crab in winter like everyone else lol
