Freezing worms

Froze lug many a time "only the big ones though as the little ones tend to go a bit mushy when defrosted" was told a long time ago by a wise old man not to bother freezing rag as it doesn't work so I never tried it.

When you've got some blow lug left after a session, thread then onto a trace as you normally would. Wrap them in cling film and bang them in the freezer.

When you come to use them, take them down in a flask, unwrap them, and use them straight away.

I've had fish up to 5lb on them, they do work.

Its ideal as well for when you first get down, set your gear up, clip on one of these baits, and you're fishing straight away while you're getting the rest of your gear set up.

One thing ive always wondered about freezing traces , does the cold damage the line in any way , even if its not visible ? just curious , ive never risked it me self yet ,always thought it would damage it ? cheers

Never tried that before will have to give it ago.

Depending on how much bait you have and when your next session will be your Rag should last a good week or so in the winter providing it was fresh when you bought it,it does'nt freeze however Davyred's idea does work well with Lug in fact its worth wrapping all your bait up to a rig or two at the end of a session if you dont have much left, less the Rag of course, gets your bait straight in the water ;) other than de-drosted crab all your other bait will re-freeze ie Mussel,Squid and Razor etc

I bought some frozen rag at Seahouses once and it was useless. Just like mush. Gutted frozen runny is good.sticks like glue.

Mick.

I freeze any old manky lug I have left and use it as rubby dubby.

Alan I've had fish on crab that have been thawed and refrozen 5-6 times. Squid I'd only defrost once as I find it's not as effective once it starts to go pink

I've never bothered re-freezing crab before Rory, always thought it was useless once de-frosted,saying that i try to only take what i will use if its been frozen ;)
