Gemini Disgorger

Just been looking at the gallery pictures and saw the one pic of a whiting (think it might have been Tony Wallsendo's, not sure). Anyway, in the picture there is a Gemini Disgorger. I've often thought about getting one but never bothered coz I never see anyone using them and therefore assumed they must not be very effective.

Are they any good? Do they save the odd deep-hooked fish? Cheers

I was advised that they are better suited for use with heavier fish...

yeah i had one off them but it was very tricky to use imho, i dont know if i just wasnt being heavy handed enouth our weather its just because i'm crap like lol, Got some forceps or fleeebay for a couple of quid insted

and it saves your fingers getting ragged to bits
but as walsendo says they work better on heavier fish
no snydey remarks please

I have read this thread carefully and for the life of me i cannot see from the posts how you reach your conclusion of crap. 6 different members have posted comments (fair comments) and not one of them has suggested other than they are a little difficult to use.

They are not crap, i use one and personally i think they are really good.

Gemini need to print some sort of instruction on how to use correctly.

Fair point. I got too hung up on the "not good for small fish". Small fish seem to be my bread and butter

I'm willing to try anything to reduce killing undersize fish - not even from conservation point of view really - just seems clumsy and wasteful. Thanks for the guidance.

Ross, with a little bit of practice they can be effective on smaller fish also.
I would suggest if the fish are really small then the best option would be to cut your hook snood and release the fish.

I can see where the Gemini thing comes from, there's been posts here before about them. I've seen them used properly, to be honest more often releasing bigger fish from boats, and it looks so simple. get one in your hands and try to work it out yourself - straight over the shoulder into the drink. Terry's right - decent instructions would be a start, I'd end up launching the instructions as well. The answer must be - like most things - get someone to show you, it's also called teaching (and learning). We expect to get it all from books, websites and videos but there's no substitute for standing next to human while they pass on their knowledge.
