Gentlemanly Conduct

ladies and gents we have been boat fishing for the last couple of years and being the gentle people that we are we have been pondering the question of what are the rules of engagement if your heading to a wreck and another boat or two are already in occupation. We would normally head to another wreck in order not to offend anyone but would we really offend you guys or are we all happy to share the space/wreck:confused:red:

Well i hate sharing a wreck with other boats and unless i have traveled along way i wont fish the same wreck as others if someone is over it already.

Dont like sharing it for the following reasons....

1/ always have to keep 1 eye on the other boat incase the drift/wind brings us together
2/ often cant get on the drift i would like
3/ often taken by suprise when fishing by waves caused from the other boat
4/i like my own space at sea and its all part of the experiance being out there on your own

But at the end of the day no one owns any wrecks and everyone can fish every wreck regardless of how many and who is on them, more and more boats every year fish the wrecks so its just common now, some days every wreck from 1mile to 15 miles has at least one boat over them.

It's going to be a new experience for us as well the year cod as the majority of boats at amble just fish the ground, with the move to rq's and on looking at others post photos it regularly shows sometimes three boats on a wreck. If you saw another boat at amble the same day never mind on the same wreck it was unusual.
I think the angle we will take is the wrecks are there to be fished and as long as you take your turn in the drift and don't impede the other boat it's all good?
I think silly o clock starts ant the early bird getting the worm will be another route we will take regularly, unfortunately!

Graham.

Looks like I'll have the wrecks all to myself this season, there was a boat last season kept cramping my style , Growler or something it was called, but rumour has it she's gone to the tyne to fight it out for a space on the wrecks off tynmouth. I heard on the grapevine that they are going to issue tickets at the piers on the tyne and you are going to have to wait till your number is called before you can join the que for the next drift. :D:rolleyes:

On a more serious note , like richy,i don't like sharing a wreck with another boat, for much the same reasons. If I find a boat already drifting the wreck I want to fish I generally motor straight past and find another one , if I'm drifting a wreck and another boat joins me I'll usually have a couple more drifts before moving on, some wrecks are big enough to have 2 or 3 boats drifting them in comfort some are just too small.
Sometimes I fish a wreck for an hour or so drifting across different sections of it till I find where the fish are concentrated , if I find them, my drifts are very short over the concentration of fish and straight back round again , not ideal if another boat or two are drifting the same wreck.
Most times when another boat is on the same drift the crews will say hello to each other and ask how it's going etc then get on with the job in hand.
I think it's a case of fish wherever you want , it's not like freshwater fishing where it would be really bad form to sit on another anglers shoulder.

I take the same approach as Richie and will steam past a wreck if there is already a boat on it unless it’s someone we know well. More and more boats out there now though and the wreck locations are well known so it’s inevitable that the fishing pressure on them increases.

Marks aren’t exclusive or private, they are there for everyone to fish so if another boat joins us on a wreck we’re already over I’ll continue fishing if there’s anything being caught there. All I expect is a little space and courtesy; don’t start a drift down tide of me or only few yards away.

its like calling into a small sweetshop for ket only so many will get served at a time .... so find the next ketshop with less of a queue :D

i'm game to share.....

first boat has "Bags" on the wreck, the rest follow on the drift, (easy)

...keep a safe distance and drop onto the drift..follow the boat in front carefully, he may snag up and hold on the wreck...watch for this....as you head towards him

i think it's a pay attention situation...

be friendly....

Personally i would share and if i went to a wreck where other boat is i would wait untill he drifted off a little then drop ontop of it most lads are spot on its those divers you have to watch i fished a wreck a few years back then here comes a rib 2 divers jumped straight in the fckrs

I did'nt mind one other boat on the same wreck, i just used to time the drifts so we were'nt drifting side by side. I there were more than one boat over the wreck, i'd just move onto another.
Or if Deano was on it, i'd give it a miss cos the jammy git would get all the biggun's anyway...:D:D;)

Thats why i like to go to wrecks 20 miles off no small boats out there,,,

You used to get two plonkers in a fifteen foot long boat twenty miles off up at Amble!!!)

Graham!

Thats the same size of a warrior 150 and there are plenty of them seen well off it all gets down to weather and how experienced the skipper is and safety equipment

I have spoke to the coast gaurd at 58 miles off and the radio was clear as a whistle mind you i do have a big ariel and have it on a extension pole.

That's what she was Sean, as long as there is a good settled high over the north sea the only limitation was the fuel!

6 boats on mark x last year certainly didn't feel either cramped nor did it impare the fishing...was good banter with the other boats as some of the faces were familiar

horses for courses...some peeps like the craic with fellow anglers, some peeps big white hunter :D

not being a boat owner,:(but having had the use of one some years ago:)

never had any problem sharing a mark:) but what i found dreadfully awfully infuriating was when some brainless prawn with a faster boat who knew exactly where you were going, would come slimeing along, nip past you and get to the mark first.:(culprits included dive boats and charter boats

There is a solution to this

Get a faster boat !!!!!!

Glad everyone seems to be happy to share, as long as we give each other space and play safe:D. This thread has cleared a few things up:confused: as having a boat with a max of around 8 knots:( and having taken ages to get out to a specific wreck to find someone already there its always a bit. of a should we or shouldnt we situation "as I wouldnt like to upset any of you boys & girls" :red:

Just beware if its a charter boat as one charter skipper nearly rammed a boat off a wreck a couple of years ago and the small boat was on the wreck first he he he

it was on a forum some peole may have read it, they had their argument he he he

its simples in my case you wont be sharing with me as i would clear off i dont want to share i would never go on a wreck when others are there first.

I have been asked if i mind another joining me on a wreck over the radio and i said NO!!

He said i was not very nice well first up best dressed

Anyway no worries as most are free where i go
