Getting ready for the Mackerel

With all of my students of English having sat their exams, I have finished tutoring until school starts again in August. This left me with time on my hands and the self anointed "Codqueen" told me to sort out the spinning gear.



So I greased the reels, washed the rods and polished up the spinners. This got me wondering, especially with the decent spell of weather, when our first trip out would be?

I looked back at last year's posts and was flabbergasted to discover that we had a blank in May, two in June and - as we were on holiday the first two weeks in July - our first shore Mackerel were not caught until 22 July. How quickly we forget!! Perhaps this is why we always have high hopes about fishing, as we just conveniently forget the bad times. I was also amazed to read that 5 Mackerel for me and four for the self anointed one was our best day! How embarrassing is that?

I'll get a skelping when she logs in, but hey ho! She hasn't even got a camera on her phone, so cannot respond and definitely hasn't got my photobucket password!

Surely this summer cannot be worse than last year...........................can it?

It's a lovely day here in the north east mark and a couple of maccy taken about 7 miles out offshore. Won't be long for the piers around here with some settled weather

I read that, it was what got me thinking about the summer. Can't believe last year was so bad for us!

having spent the bank holiday at st abb's, with coalie after coalie, me left hand has passed the test.....!

so, am ready for them, mark, you need some trusty zenith's m8......

and in 2011, the mackerel was already in by now......!

No point Davey, there is no Bass up here on the Clyde. Mackies take anything shiny.

Now then if some kind gent wants to take us on a Bass hunt when we are in Whitley Bay, I might be persuaded to buy a few............................

The one in yr first pic at top with pink hook protector is a zennith mate 50 60 g is all you need really lovely spinner many fish will take them. thats all i use up the likes of st abbs spinning for pollick and the makki love them and you can cast a fair distance with them on the right rod with low diameter line

Also I seem to remember catching over a dozen Mackerel in August. Now get back to the polishing Cinders!!
