I know what you mean I didn't tell the tale of the coalmine for years as I thought I would be laughed and plus being terrified. There may be some explanation to those who don't believe the stories but to those involved they are real:eek:

For years now I have fished mostly on my own, (miserable, moaning, anti-social bugger :) )
It's mostly because of the shift pattern I work but it never really bothers me and it means I can often have the place to myself at "daft o'clock" midweek.

A few years ago I finished my lateshift and as the sea was away I chucked my box and rod in the car and headed to one of my favourite places in Northumberland.
I arrived at my mark and parked up along the farm track, quickly getting my stuff out of the car and placing my rod against the barbed wire fence. I was eager to get going as I could hear the sea and the conditions seemed prefect.

My concentration was broken when I became aware of someone standing to one side and slightly behind me.....startled I turned suddenly to see a young girl standing there, she was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt and her long dark hair was flattened and stuck to her face as she was soaking wet. I could see quite clearly now that she was soaked to the skin, not just her hair but also her clothes.

I had got such a fright it took me a few seconds before I spoke to her, "Bloody hell, you made me jump there love" I said.
"Do you have a cigarette?" she asked, " I'm sorry I don't smoke" I replied.

I looked at her and gave a sort of half smile but I was still a bit nervy from the fright she just gave me. She just looked at me with no sign of emotion of any sort. I was feeling a bit awkward now so I turned back to my car and continued getting my stuff together.
After about 20 seconds or so I thought to myself, hold on Ian....this isn't right, she's soaked to the skin in the middle of the night and it's bloody freezing, so I said "Are you OK?" as I turned back around to face her......but she wasn't there. I quickly shone my light up the road and then back down but there was no sign of her, I shouted again....but nothing.

There was nowhere she could have went to in those few seconds, it would have taken a lot longer to walk either way up or down the road and the bushes and fences made any access into the fields almost impossible.

I've told a few people this story now and there really is no explanation as to where she came from or how she disappeared so quickly. I'm aware that the human mind is a powerful thing and can play tricks on us if we let our imaginations run amok but I can only recount this event as it happened.....make of it what you will.

(If you liked this story I'll tell you all about Marsden beach and the "Galloping Horse" next time!)

Ok Wee Ver....here it is.

I used to do almost all of fishing North of the Tyne and into Northumberland, mostly because the clubs I fished when I was younger were from there.

About six or seven year ago I had to concentrate on somewhere closer to home so I could get back quicker if I had to as a family member was poorly.
I started to fish along the South Tyneside coast, in particular Marsden and Whitburn and I soon realised that I had been missing out on a great coastline with a fantastic history to it.

One night I was on Marsden Beach and had move along to fish at Holmes gut when I could hear the sound of a horse coming along the beach but when I shone my lamp there was nothing. A few weeks later the same thing happened but this time It unnerved me a lot more.

I told this to a friend of mine a short while later and he said that he never goes there as it properly scares him and he's even though he'd felt someone touch his shoulder down there but hasn't said anything to anyone as he felt silly.

I spent some time on the internet and library and found that Marsden get's it's name from the "Mares Den" as in the home of a Mare or Horse, (similar to White Mare pool, just up the road).
It is said that the daughter of a Saxon King used to ride her horse there to meet her lover in secret but one night they were attacked and killed.....to this day the ghost of her horse gallops the beach looking for her.

Now like I said in my previous post, the human mind is a very powerful thing and can play a lot of tricks on us. For all I know I may have heard this story before without realising it and it has been lodged in some corner of my mind ready to put the wind up me at just the right time.

As before though, all I can do is recount my story.

Regards Ian

Some spooky shi#going on like

It makes you wounder what happens after we go

Also I wounder what the girl would have done had you smoked and handed her a tab

Never heard a horse down Marsden before but I have been spooked by the sound of foot steps across the pebbles somewhere behind me but when turned to look there was no one there. I've never got off that beach and up those wooden steps as fast as that night, the Benny Hill music wouldn't have been out of place, my legs must have been a blur.

I saw something the other night on newbiggin beach, there was a few mad people out in the pouring rain & mustn't have realised that lass had her boobs out on big brother!!!

But on a serious note a few years back I used to fish the beach down from the Gibraltar rock at tynemouth
One of the nights we were fishing away & heard yelling & screaming in the corner under the castle we shone our head lights & clearly seen people running around, a while later the noises were almost like crying/screaming & fearing the worst we thought someone was trapped in the sea or on the rocks, we went over to se if we could see anything but saw nothing, still feeling worried I decided to call the coastguard from the Gibraltar rock pub, the woman behind the bar told me of some very spooky sightings from the same rocky area, aparantly hundreds of years ago due to their religion they weren't allowed to drink alchohol so some used to climb down the rocks to have a sneaky drink! A high percentage of them slipped on the rocks & into the sea.
The coastguard did arrive but like me & my mate they saw nothing & I could have sworn we were being laughed at for telling ghost stories!!

don't no if its a bloke mate but defo summit there its in the middle of the upstairs window

Only thing I can see when zooming in is a reflection of the clouds in the window - granted, if I squint a bit and use my imagination I can almost make it look like a vague outline of a figure.

Gary :)
