Fished blyth beach tonight, loads of peeps there fishing.

Word started to spread of there being a big string of Gill nets just off the low water mark.

Also heard that there maybe some around whitley??

Please dont post on hear if you catch any form of sort after fish.
If it is the case that there are nets there, we all know what they are for!

not sure if its just hear say, but its a bummer if they have been dropped there because of the shiney wee fish that have been landed there lately.

Keep it to yourselves, post pics up of any decent ones. Just be selective on who you tell.
follow in the steps of Sam Harris for the chronicle :D

rant over haha

im against gill netting, thats just my choice, we are all entitled to our opinions, just incase anyone trys to have a pop at me :D

Happens every year unfortunately, get a few days/weeks decent fishing and then wham they're strung the entire length of the beach.

Why would a fishermen need to look at these forums to decide where he is going to shoot his nets, its not as if the beach has just been discovered. These fishermen have fished these beaches for years and certainly dont require written reports on an angling forum before putting there gear there, The last thing fishermen want to do after a hard days graft is look on a computer forum to find out where a few fish have been caught.

actually i spoke to a fella yesterday says he was told there been some of them fish took in the nets on a certain local beach and thats info given to a angler from a netter

so are these nets legal? Most fish round here av caught are undersize anyway (small scoolies) so are no use unless they are keepin them illegally:mad:

Heard the same thing mesel - some silvery fish being caught and wham they are there

well, i have also heard that a few of these peeps fish from the shore as well and have been getting info via tackle shop crack when they have been into buy some gear.

some of these guys only do it occasionally, i have seen them leaving the boat yard at blyth in a rowing boat, cutting under the wooden pier at high water and ten into the bay for their nets.

just wanted to see what the general thought was about it?

its legal, but they are wanting to stop it, a gill net will not allow fish through, they get stuck in it and most end up dead, it is supost to be of a certain size to allow small fish passage.

most beach anglers will plop a shiney silver fish back even if it is just over size, as they take so long to grow.
gill netters wont :(

has any1 actually seen these nets? it does p**s me off though, we could probs get some decent fishing if these fish were left a few years to spread out and breed, sad thing is these fish arnt even to a breeding age and whatever schools are in the area will be wiped out, very sad a think:(
am not a fan of nets:mad: is there no laws that they need to be so far from the shore?

:( I agree with ya sid m8, am one of the stupid:mad:guilty ones that posted a report on here last week, "NEVER AGAIN", I'll pm you of me reports, sad innit!!!!:(

if you visit the grainger market in newcastle some of the (sea) bass on the fish stalls are proper tiddler's !! all farmed fish ?

I will still post info of fish and marks, it dont make a bit of difference bass have been caught from all of our beaches and rock marks with some surf in front, most of the netters our days have a couple of generations of info to call on and know when and where to shoot the nets the same as the hardened winter anglers know what tide, size sea state and mark produces best.

I rather read a catch report with info in than 1 that reads....

Fished England last week north east in the sea caught fish, went home .

Everyone has there opinion and the above is mine.

I dont like the netters either from the shore and the lobster potters from the boat but its part of fishing, will always be there until the fish are gone.

:)I only mean not to report those luvly silver streaks of the blue yonder Captain, of course we are all on here to help one another:D ya nah wot a mean;)
