fished the last hour and a half of the flood tide just upriver from the golden lion at the end of the railings
first cast had a couple of good knocks which resulted in an eel
next cast got a typical flatty rattle, gave it a little time then bent down to pick my rod up, suddenly the butt jumped up almost with enough force and speed to take the rod over the railings, just managed to grab it, what the ****, luckily i had the drag set as about 20 yards of line peeled off the reel, suddenly the line went quite slack but could still feel something on which was coming in quite easily, this is what was on the end !
as you can see a flounder with a whopping big bite out of it. about 5 minutes later on the other side of the river i saw an otter emerge from the water into the undergrowth, i might be putting 2 & 2 together and coming up with 5 but i'm assuming it must have been the otter, its the second time ive seen otters within a mile or so stretch of the river. after that got another 4 flounders (all fish on fresh crab) so not a bad little eventful session.
one of the flounders had patches of colour on the white side, used to get a lot like this years ago but haven't had many in the last few years.
