Its funny cos when you tell the uneducated that there are actually loads of different type of sharks in our local waters they just come out with "aye whatever" , but how they know its a Great White from those grainy pics i dont know! I doubt it though.
last time i had seen GW's was in the Adriatic we were on a ferry running up the croatian coast and every one was going oooh and aaarrr at the dolphins following a fishing boat we overtook ( about 50 yards seperation)
well any one ever seen a 14 foot dolphins with a high triangle fin and a vertical tail
no me nether
then one of the fishermen chucked a bucket of guts from filleting over the side and we got to see a nice white belly , this was 1 mile off the place we were stopping at (rabac) , amazing how many of these dolphin watchers never went back in to the cool refreshing water for a swim the rest of that holiday
I was out off Amble a couple of weeks back drifting a wreck , I needed to sort some rigs and tackle and had drifted quite a way with the engine off when I noticed a pod of dolphins circling the boat at about 30 yards . As I watched them and worked on my rigs they got closer and closer to the boat until eventually they were alongside . One of them was seriously large and had white flanks , this beast was rubbing along the hull of the boat ....... now I'm well intersested in nature and such like , and felt quite priveledged to whitness this , but if I'm honest , being alone 4 miles of shore in a 16ft boat with a black and white dolphin nearly as long as the boat scratching his back on it had me a little concerned :red:
I started the engine and when they weren't near the boat made a hasty exit
