Anyone have any experience of the Grey's excursion travel / boat rod care to advise. I'm not sure what version it is yet but think it's 8ft. Will find out for definite tomorrow.

I am off to Ireland (ballycastle) next week and plan on doing a bit lrf while I'm there bit dont want to drag my big rod. Being fairly new to this fishing lark, I don't have a range of rods to choose from.

A lad at work has the Grey's rod for sale and I'm wondering if it's worth me buying it. I plan on a few boat trips this year but want a travel rod that'll do the job off the rocks or pier as well.

For 40 quid it's worth having I suppose but am I better putting the cash towards something better suited.

Don't just tell me it's sh1te.... Something constructive would be appreciated.

I have had one for about 3 years and used it without any issues. It has a suprisingly good action considering the number of joints.

I've had a good look at the rod today. It's the 8' 10-20lb version. Not sure it's going to be any good other than boat fishing so will pack my 11ft 2 piece rod and leave one if the kids at home o_O

Thanks for the reply. Might take it off his hands for it's intended boat use when I get back if I've any money left. Plan on getting out on a boat early next month and a few times this summer.

I have a 7' 10" 4 piece Penn boat rod. Last summer on a day trip to the shore, my spinning rod broke and all I had in the the car was the Penn. Hopeless off the shore, so off to the pub we went!
