Well lesson learned, was fishing target last night with Carl, not much happening but a nice night got 1 good knock all nigh and wow what a fish it was gave a good fight and was having to pump it all the way managed to get it to the bottom of target but just couldn't lift it we could sea the beast but couldn't wind it in, was just about to start hand balling it up when it came of :( i'm not going to try and guess how big it was cos i'll only get upset, but it's safe to say it would of been a new PB. Needles to say i'm off to buy a drop net.

Anyway had a nice rocking to make up for it  unfortunatly carl blanked,

was still a good night mate, just a bloody shame that monster didn't stay on and you don't like to mention how big it was... or guess but i'd say 50 55 cm (havn't got the experiance to guess the weight by the size i seen) beautiful cod. theres ALWAYS next time mate

hard luck mate its an awful feelin losing a fish so big its happened to me on several occasions i now have my own drop net but since buyim it ive never had any use for it bloody typical aint it:rolleyes:

yeah i've got a feeling i'll be carrying it around for nothing for a long time, will just have to use it on small fish to get my moneys worth

lol who knows mate could have been over even bigger hard to judge from up there, but i reackon i would have been able to lift a 50 - 55 cm fish, i'm not that much of a girl lol

I feel for you Phil...its bad enough to lose a decent fish while reeling it in and not seeing it ,but the ones you see out of the water then lose really gut you, I lost one on cambois pier many years ago, while pulling it up the side it dropped onto the concrete foundations, and the lads who were fishing around me were looking through the gaps in the wood shouting it was around the 15lb mark, myself and another lad found the nearest ladders to climb down, and whilst desending saw a wave push it off the pier, I still picture that fish to this day and have never had anything close again.

Know how you must be feeling m8 myself and Bigpaul have both lost Big fish on the pull up at Newbiggin Cliffs, better luck next time.

john.

big fish lossing is me best sport LOL i lost a lunker last year hook ripped from its mouth on the lift and it just stayed there for a few seconds before taking off ,later to find out me mate turned up 20 mins later further down with his newly made dropnet ,i was one wounded guy for a while but you win some you lose some all part of fishing really

shields mate and for anyone who don't know yet.... FENCINGS DOWN :D and a smaller one's replaced it down the path.... but its no problem for anyone now:D

Aye it was a bit of a pain to get through that fence!
Just been reading a book i got as a pressie in november, although based around the coarse side of angling i thought this was appropriate....
"of all the different steps that are required before you catch a fish, none is as satisfying a the fight itself. The feel of a living, breathing creature on the end of your line, where moments ago there was nothing, is deep and resonating"
quoted from 101 golden rules of fishing, wiles, wit and wisdom to inform and entertain by Rob Beattie
