Well since I am not posting reports of late due to the English weather, I thought I would take sometime to reminisce about the season so far.
My season started on the 15th of April up at St Marry's and kicked the first boat trip off with a modest haul of 5 codling keepers and 2 pouting. Since that day I have had 19 boating trips with 7 called off due to bad weather.
Sue everyone will agree that when we can make it out he fishing is fantastic, not done a total until season end but I would say I have personally wopped last seasons cod total already and took well over 400 codling/cod with numbers of ling well down to only about 80 so far.
Best ling only 9lb and best cod 11lb, also went through a new record of losing leads and gear with one trip taken a new record of 17 lost sets.
Best marks so far have been up at St Marry's, 1 mile off the Tyne and a little wreck 12.4 miles off land. Caught fish on every single wreck I have fished this year and that is something I can’t remember doing before.
Had 3 different crew on board this year along with 3 family members banging in a total of 63 hours on the engine.
Full report at the end of season as always but long may this good fishing continue and hoping for better weather.
Should add I have kept less than 20 cod or ling this season and feel very good about putting them back to fight again.
