Half season of 2010

Well since I am not posting reports of late due to the English weather, I thought I would take sometime to reminisce about the season so far.

My season started on the 15th of April up at St Marry's and kicked the first boat trip off with a modest haul of 5 codling keepers and 2 pouting. Since that day I have had 19 boating trips with 7 called off due to bad weather.

Sue everyone will agree that when we can make it out he fishing is fantastic, not done a total until season end but I would say I have personally wopped last seasons cod total already and took well over 400 codling/cod with numbers of ling well down to only about 80 so far.

Best ling only 9lb and best cod 11lb, also went through a new record of losing leads and gear with one trip taken a new record of 17 lost sets.

Best marks so far have been up at St Marry's, 1 mile off the Tyne and a little wreck 12.4 miles off land. Caught fish on every single wreck I have fished this year and that is something I can’t remember doing before.

Had 3 different crew on board this year along with 3 family members banging in a total of 63 hours on the engine.

Full report at the end of season as always but long may this good fishing continue and hoping for better weather.

Should add I have kept less than 20 cod or ling this season and feel very good about putting them back to fight again.

Thats some going that richy, i remember reading one of your posts early on in the year and you didn't seem too optermistic about the forth coming season. By the way you've caught around 10 times more fish than me and had a lot more trips you lucky man, keep it up and respect for chucking them back!

you have had some cracking days out so far mate alot of people will ever catch as many cod in there lifes and the best thing is next month is the best time for the bigguns

Lol yer many take the pee but i keep a rcord of everythign on Excel sheets, i note the following..

Speices and numbers caught
Biggest fish of the day
Best mark
Hours added
Fuel Used
State of the tide and drift direction for that days best mark

Alot of this is only to give me something to look back at but info on marks, state of tide and direction means i know what wrecks fish best when yor drifting in 1 direction etc.

A good example of this and many will back me up on this that fished Stingray, 1 of my fav wrecks can only be fished when a west wind is stronger than the tide meaning you drift west to east, any other direction and you just get snagged and the fishing is also poor, catch it right and it has not let me down in 2 years.

Likei say it just give me somethingt o look at in the winter months and i have records going back to 2002 when i used to fish on a mates boat called Dolly.

Keep it going Rich ;) , I can't keep records of fish caught etc, I lose count of how many I've caught after about five or six , too busy fishing to count them.
I wish I could be bothered to write down all the tide conditions and such though , might learn quicker about what affect it all has on the fishing.
Then again , I can't even tell if the water is clear or not , so I'm probably best just chucking and chancing as per usual :D

:) I just keep a A5 note pad and between wrecks i note things down then uplaod on my pc when i get in.

Planning sat, Sunday, Monday, Friday and Sunday...see how many the weather lets me get out thou :)

I'm hoping to get out this weekend and a day or two through the week next week , signs of a big high pressure system coming in towards next weekend , hope it's right , I'm due a few days off  :D.
I'm itching to get fishing again, engines serviced , boat is nearly back to clean again and the tanks are full of fuel and waiting to go , hopefully it's not too long before I'm knee deep in fish guts and cod crap again :D

Know it reads very good catches this year, good at all methods of fishing, slow change over after tackle lost, has lots of respect for boat property :)

If this wind keeps up it will be flattie bashing on Sat at anchor :(
