Was listining to the Talk Sport fishing programe this morn about the very same thing and they recon if you burn both ends and let them smolder about 1/4 of an inch down before you put them in the holder they should work ok then

Best advice I can give ya with them, next time ya go fishing take them with you and throw them as far into the sea as possible. Come home and order some zipo petrol jobbies. These give off real heat and once lit they don't take any looking after.

I've got a Boyston runs on petrol and uses batterys to start it, Ive compared it with the zippo and other hand warmers its a no contest the Boyston wins all day long for heat and running time, cost is about £30 off ebay, not the cheapest but dont forget you only get what you pay for

Got mine off Amazon for 14 quid,best money I've ever spent on fishing gear!

I have one of those zippo's and it only stays hot for about 1-2hrs then it's dead. I fill it up but still keeps dying on me!

What fuel are you using mate?I was told to keep away from the cheap stuff and only to use Zippo's own or Swan.
I light mine with one of those blast lighters,takes about 5-10 seconds then you can see the filament glowing red.Then just pop the top back on and into its bag and it stays hot for 12 to 15 hours

Year I use the same kind of lighter and am sure swan lighter fluid, it will be my luck I have a dodgy 1 lol..
