finally, a ban on fox hunting with hounds! Nice to see tony get it stuck up him by the parliament act.

lots of the pro hunt lobby threaten to disrupt whatever they can and continue hunting, so the sweetest irony is that the crimainal justice act, the introduction of which was aimed partly to stop the hunt sabs a few years ago, can now be used against the hunters themselves!

well and truly hoist by their own petard!
 
did.nt think it would ever happen,feel sorry for all the people this will effect,IMO.I don\'t include the badger chavs in that comment by the way

Whatever your views on the subject Mark\'s right there. They can\'t kick up about it if they get done when they\'ve been happy for the law to be used to allow them to hunt when it\'s legal. Like a lot of things in life what goes around, comes around.
 
what they should do
now is
shoot the fox
give the dogs a sniff
hide it 5 miles away
then they can hunt it
and then dogs can rip it to fook

its like a game of hide and seek
 
I don\'t want to come across as pro-hunting here (coz I ain\'t by any stretch of the imagination) but according to statistics only 1 in 5 foxes are actually caught by the hounds (and they are normally the sick or injured ones). Yes, it\'s a cruel, undignified death for the fox, but now that hunting\'s banned the foxes will still have to be controlled in some way, fact of life.

This will involve shooting (pretty quick for the fox if you\'re a good shot) and gassing (pretty cruel, painful and undignified) and also pretty indiscrimate when it comes to killing/maiming whatever\'s down the hole (badgers, stray/lost dogs and cats and rabbits) and most alarmingly the easiest and most cost effective to use.

The sad thing is that the hounds will be most affected by the hunting ban and end up being put down now that they are surplus to requirements.

The worrying thing is that with this victory under their belts, they\'ll probably turn on us next? (barbless aberdeens, lead free grippers and knotless nets for starters anyone?)
 
I don\'t think angling has much to worry about - if we kill a fish, it\'s swift and for a reason, a meal.. if we\'re fishing for sport then most of the fish are released alive. We\'re not killing another living animal in the name of \"sport\".
 
You forgot the knock-on effect of the poisoning that will take place now to kill foxes.They die(horribly) are eaten by crows, and other carrion eaters which in turn dies,and a circle starts,tho\' each time the poisoning effect is less.But then they find another one,and bingo off you go again.Wildlife can\'t breed fast enough to counter that,so already rare birds and animals get even rarer,ie hawks etc.

this is the one arguemnet that has riled me the most in this debate. Hounds to the huntsmen are just tools. what happens to a hound when it gets over 5 years old?? does it get nice cosy retirement?? no it gets a bullet in the head. What happens to the hound that is a bit unruly?? it gets a bullet in the head. What happens to the hound that doesn\'t want to take orders??? it gets a bullet in the head. what happens to the hound that gets an injury?? it gets a bullet in the head. What happens to the hound that can\'t keep up with the pack. It gets a bullet in the head.


No paying the vet for a humane put down. Bang bang lie down your dead.

They have as little respect for the life of their hounds as they do the foxes.
 
Tat, I didn\'t mention the poisoning as it\'s normally used indiscriminately (and illegally) to delibrately target protective speices such as birds of prey by gamekeepers who consider them \"pests\" for taking the odd pheasant. It\'s dead easy to leave a dead, poison laced rabbit out in the open with the excuse that it\'s to target a fox. Like you rightly say, poisoning is the most indiscriminate of the lot and ultimately affects humans as it gets into the food chain and the water.

Mark, I agree with you 100% and in no way was I using the argument in defence of the huntsmen. It is sad that the hounds will be destroyed, tools of the trade or not, as at the end of the day it isn\'t their fault and they have no say in the matter. Maybe the redundant huntsmen should be given the \"coup de grace\" as I doubt it would stir any emotions whatsoever.

The fact remains that foxes will still need to be controlled, and hopefully with a bit of thought to the enviroment. The good news is that the hunting set can\'t use it as an excuse for a sport anymore, which has to be great news for all the horses which smash their legs every year ploughing into walls, fences and ditches in pursuit of a \"good day out\"
 
It\'s a nasty habbit we humans have got into of feeling we need to control the populations of other species on the planet. Ecosystems work by finding a natural balance, but we just love to stomp in there and f/k that up.

Boom in the population of the foxes prey and fox numbers go up, we kill the foxes so then the prey (other *pests/vermin* to us) boom further and we have to control them too.. which then knocks onto other species and we end up protecting something else.. It\'s a vicious circle once we start interfering.
 
I see they\'re gonna start a load of civil disobedience, by blocking utility companies from servicing powerlines, gas mains etc.
The government should block their vast subsidies in return or maybe Joe Public will get so hacked off with them they may stop buying farm produce.
I suppose then we\'d have to bail them out of another self caused crisis by paying more in subs tho!
 
Not all farmers support the hunt mind Red5.

I used to shoot over 1200 acres of farmland and the farmer wouldn\'t let the hunt anywhere near. The amount of damage they caused to nesting pheasant and partridge far outweighed anything the local foxes could achieve in a season. He actually asked us not to target them as they did no harm, and in his eyes, weren\'t vermin at all (it was an arable farm by the way, probably different if he had kept chickens etc)

The gamekeeper on the neighbouring shoot was very old school (wiping out birds of prey, badgers etc) and he had an almost racial-like hatred of foxes. If they couldn\'t be shot or hunted, he would set locking snares and other nasty (illegal) traps. Although I strongly disagree with his barbaric methods, his job (and home) depended on results (ie how many birds were successfully released for the season).

5150, you\'re dead right and I\'m as guilty as anybody when it comes to playing God. I\'ve taken literally hundreds of pigeon and rabbits in the past in the name of \"pest control\", but it\'s not just direct hunting that upsets the ecosystem. Development - houses, roads, schools, shops, factories, all destroy habitat at a greater rate than anything else we can throw at it.

The only speices that seem to thrive nowadays are rats and cockroaches, maybe someones trying to tell us something??
 
I agree with the fact not all farmers agree with the hunt Rob. Seen the damage meself to winter wheat after 20 horses and dozens of hounds have churned the land up. Some gamekeepers are of that ilk also but they cannot justify keeping a job/house thru the inhumane treatment of animals. It\'s like global warming, do we keep on spewing out harmful emmissions in the name of progress at the expense of all other creaures on the planet or do we try to keep a happy medium?
Shooting vermin I.e pigeons/rabbits isn\'t the same as chasing an animal over miles of land and then tearing it to bits. By the way did you get me PM the other day about the Weirauch?

Well chaps , got your foxhunting ban and this barbaric sport is now banned . Everything in the garden looks rosy eh . Wonder what the thosands of anti\'s will do in their spare time now then ???? Time will tell .
