It fishes well on a big north easterley too, its rarely unfishable. If you fish the bottom end (stairs end) of the gully you can gets lots of loose weed in a big sea and it can seem unfishable, just move a 50yds or so and you can usually escape it .
Its a heavy mark so be prepared to fish heavy gear 30-40lb mainline 40 -50lb hooklengths 4/0s an a big heavy 6-7oz gripper, theres lots of kelp close in with some wicked ledges. Ive had most of my best bags following the tide back up the skeer casting behind the swells. It seems to fish best when you can see the actual current streaming out of the middle of the gully, a cast of 70 or more yds and your normally into it.
Nows a good time as it does throw up some piggies.
