the reason ask is i think most of us started fishing as kids for a bit of fun and something to do that dint cost to much . and now it seems to cost a bomb to go fishing . the rite bait line hooks rigs exct. and then you hear reports like i blanked ?????(sorry duck you know i wipp ya ass most of the time ) but dose it relay mater if you get a bite or nor sure if you got a fish every time you went out will whoud be called catching. so has fishing become to serious from wot it use to be wen you where a kid . just a bit fun and getting out of the house

its a very good post mate:exclam: regrettably i think adult life is a lot more serious than when we were kids,possibly we make it that way our selves fishing is just one example,but there are folks who fish and couldnt give a jot whether they catch or not:exclam:

what would i rather have:question: this serious life i have now or the one i had 50plus years ago,wandering over the moors with a 410 shotgun under my arm,and a .22 slung across my chest,cartridges in one pocket bullets in the other and not a care in the world.i fished then too,not giving a toss if i caught or not,and in respect of fishing i must say theres not a competetive bone in my body even now:exclam:

Given the choice I'd rather be catching fish than blanking, but given the same choice I'd rather be blanking than not fishing...

It's about being out there rather than what you bring home, but I have to admit the generally poor fishing folks seem to be reporting is a far cry to how it was when I was last into the game

For me its simply about being out there and if I catch something its a bonus! I don't get to fish much these days much as I'm away most of the time, but when I'm home I always try to get out at least a couple of times! Being out on those rocks for me gives me the opportunity to forget about the rest of the stresses associated with life and think only about fishing!!!

When you have a stressful job, fishing is the best way to chill out and forget about everything, doesn't matter if you catch or the weather is bad just being there is the best medicine i know.

Catching fish has nothing to do with fishing. If you just sit by the water for hours on end, people say look at that lazy *****. If you have a rod, they say oh look theres a man fishing.

I have to agree that it can become too serious. I used to do a lot of match fishing two nights a week plus club matches and opens. If I wasn't fishing I was digging bait or crabbing. My out building was like an aquarium with trays of water at different temperatures for worms and anywhere up to 200 crabs in various stages of peeling. I realized that it a second job and I got no pleasure and more importantly peace of mind when fishing so I packed it in completely and after a gap of 10 years I took up pleasure angling again in 2004. I had kept all my old gear old ABU reels and Century rods so it wasn't hard to start again.

The technology and gizmo trap always existed. Some of it was really innovative and a lot was less so. There are always people will buy the latest "thing" in the belief that it will improve the possibility of catching fish - perhaps so and possibly not.

Main thing is to enjoy fishing.

I love my fishing and admit its becoming a bit of an obsession, if I'm not down fishing I'm at home tying rigs ,cleaning my gear, or at work thinking about fishing.
I've started taking my little boy with me this winter, and watching his excitement at pulling in a little whiting, or a crab, has ignited memories of when my dad used to take me fishing at amble. Very happy days and great life long memories.
Fishing is fun once more!

fishing to me is to de-stress and chill . i care not if its a busy pier or if i am alone on the beach . as long as i am fishing im happy, i feel kinda sorry for those i see with a twisted face saying its only whiting or blanked. yes i appreciate is not the best result when theres a big sea and all u end up with is a rockling but hey its 3-5 hrs away from the stress of my office and its just me and the sea. ( normally beachboy is there too )yes some do take it too seriously but i m glad while i am a turning into tackle tart i am also just as happy with a singular 30 cm whiting. my two penneth

Competition fishing makes you a different animal altogether,you HAVE to catch fish,you stop enjoying the days you come home knackered and stressed out,pleasure fishing is going out enjoying the day ,meet a few new friends,learn something new and come home smiling

I know a few lads that match fish and if they blank they are gutted even if there are fishing for fun if they blank there gutted even more.

I just enjoy getting out for the crack me.

ive started taking my little lads with me to,only take them to beaches or bottom of pier until i can get them the proper gear,very hard to find flotation suits for kids and thats a must before he heads on rocks,just watching there little eyes light up when they see a fish or crab makes it all worth it,really lookin forward to taking them in summer,hope your little 1 enjoys fishing with his dad and like you say,life long memories are piceless
