Hello lads Mick here. The three of us Ian Jackson, Ian (chut) Ainsley and myself headed out for our adventure to Norway using the two flight system From Newcastle to Amsterdam then onto Trondeim. It was easy. Never saw our luggage in Amsterdam as put on plane for you.
At Trondeim we got the motor--------------and what a lovely piece of kit.
After a three hour drive we arrived at the Chalet. We were the only ones there for the week and they were spot on. Very comfortable.
We fished a night time session down by the harbour on a rock mark. Couple of small codling turned up so we had an early night ready for the next full day. Due to the bad weather and unusal havy rain we decided after advice from the host to fish the old ferry terminal--which in fact looked nothing like this. We drove the short distance and set up on a rock mark. I must have hit the best spot because within a short time i saw one of my beachcasters baited with bluey start to bend down. I knew straight away this was a big fish so began to wind-trusting in my Tronix 7-0 circa hooks and sure enough look what turned up.
The fish i had spent over four years trying to catch --MY FIRST DOUBLER 10lb 14 oz.:red:
For some strange reason the two Ians decided to join me at my location ha ha.
After another couple of casts i had a gentle bite whic resulted in another big fish but i lost this after snagging up.
The two ians were pulling in Cod but none matching up to my doubler. Here is the stamp of fish caught.
Due to the heavy rain we fished the old ferry mark three times through the week and i had my best ever flatty a nice Plaice of over 2lb.
We tried a few different spots but the best we found was up near Zanzibar which was about an hours drive away and the place were Gary Pye had his big fish. chut hit the jackpot when he landed this fish-To me a lifetime achievement. A Halibut over 4lb in wieght.
Coalies and big ones were common and we had some lovely fresh codling from the same place. Heres two i pulled in on one cast
This spot in Zanzibar near the new apartments Din Tur are building was a dynamite spot. We knew big fish were about and this was proved when i had a massive rod bender moment. I was up on dry rocks when the fish took the bluey and nearly pulled the rod in. I managed to reel it in towards an opening in the rocks but it then veered to my right and i was helpless to try and stop it and the 60lb line on my rig snapped. The fish went belly up in the weed and Ian Jackson tried to grab it whilst i held his hand but it was an inch to far and when it felt Ians finger it turned and swam off. I would honestly say it was well over 15lb.
Chut also had a heart stopping moment when a fish took his bait and stripped the reel. He too had his 30lb main line snapped. He said in all his 52 years he had seen nothing like it. We speculated it was maybe a big Halibut.
We fished this mark for three days as it was sheltered. Ian Jackson had a cod to 8lb and Chut had a one up to 9lb 1oz.
I held on to the biggest fish all week but thought i was beaten on one of our last sessions from near the harbour by the digs when Chut caught this fella.
Massive Cod but just over 8lb.
I held onto the best fish but by luck rather than skill--There was a lot bigger but not landed,mind to me thats half the challenge of fishing.
Home now knackered. Lost half a stone. All fish were released exept for the 10lber we had for tea and the Halibut which we also had for a meal.
Excellent trip and thanks to Ian Peacock (Din Tur) and Gary Pye for contacting us and guiding us.
Weather was wet wet wet but that slight handicap did not stop three hardly North East anglers.
Next year Me and chut are definatly looking at new apartments in Zanzibar area and i would love the use of a small boat to try another angle at fishing. Pontoons being built so looks good.
PS forgot to say Ian Jackson caught a Wolfish from the opposite side in the old ferry spot but i did not take photo.
Hard work and some days quiet but loved very minute.
Oh and i wore my new Rockhoppers but still spent loads of time slipping over onto my arse ha ha.
