Hauxley

Went fishing today, from about 1 pm to 5 pm at the beach near Hauxley (across the island). Landed two nice bass, and a whole bunch of tiny whiting. Did not really expect to see bass in this temperature, but I'm not from here so I could not be sure. Back in the NL's the bass is gone now, but reports of loads (up to 80) size whiting a night from the beaches and piers there.
May head to Tynemouth tomorrow, though ran out of bait, can I dig somewhere myself or are some of the shop supplying bait opened on Sundays?

Was pretty pleased with them fish indeed, was expecting to blank for I know nothing about what sites fish best. Did get to learn a pendulum cast, had nothing else to do except wheel in every now and then... Sad though the longest cast was one which snapped away, hundreds of yards without drag from the trailing line. Should consider switching to braided once I get the casting with a multiplier right.
Which baitshops do you recommend, same for a good site for fishing in the afternoon.

there is a list of tackel shops on this site,, also there is alist of marks have a scan of it see wot takes your fancy

Baits always spot on from Frasers in Whitley Bay but like Seanyrooroo's already said it may be hard to get.

try billy's in north shields for your bait but there might not be any as there was two big comps yesterday. ive got mine ordered for my match on tynemouth today.

Another day at the beach in Hauxley, less fish, only a lone rockling at the beach near the car park 11 AM till 7 PM, then moved to the harbor entrance and nothing but nibling all the time. Switched to size 2 hooks and then caught about 8 fish, whiting, cod and antoher rockling, all small sizes. Not bad but took all day to catch anything.
Has anyone got good advice on a good (sandy) beachspot near Newcastle?
