help please

cheers lads been a massive help last questions in sea fishing i tie a fast link so i can change rigs over is that possible?also is a uni knot ok to tie a lure with?

If your using a 2-3ft flouro rubbing leader you can use a small fast link / lure clip to attach your lures etc, again this is down to personal preference, otherwise Palomar knots are quite popular for attaching lures especially with braid. You can use improved clinch knots and loop knots to mono or Flouro leader, but these can slip when used directly to braid.

If you wish to use a light rig etc, then dispense with the leader and use a snap link straight to the mainline. You don't want any knot needing to pass through the guides of your rod when casting, otherwise you'll end up with a horrendous mess of a braid knot wrapped around one of your guides!

just tie it on and thats all you need to do, then when you want to change a lure just open it up and put a new lure on

I keep seeing braid mentioned is it necessary to use braid or would a light mono be ok and what breaking strain 8lb or 10lb and if using a mono would you put leader on

In what application HRF / LRF ?? Mono does have its place in certain situations. I always use braid on my HRF , braid has little or zero stretch , you will have better feel and more lure control (especially top waters) with braid. When I use mono straight through no need for a leader

Was thinking LRF I've got a 4000 size spool and a 9ft 6 spinning rod that I use mainly for holidays and the odd mackerel session when I need bait during the summer, what would you recommend casting weight

My LRF Set ups are a lot light than this 7-8ft rod 0.5-7 g 1000. Size reel. I can't tell you the rating of the rod just by its length, it should be printed on the blank.

That sounds like a a travel set up I have with a very light telescopic spinning rod a very small reel, would never if thought if using it over here suppose its just mind set, cheers

IMO I would be to keep your lure fishing separate from your bait fishing and have a dedicated lure outfit, between 7-9ft med/ fast to fast action. As for the casting weight I personally wouldn't go above 60g for general plugging. My main rod that i use is rated 8-35g and ive landed double figure fish no problems. Reel size 3-4000 size depending on what rod you choose, spooled with 20-25lb braid.

What would you use the above set up for mate just reading a previous post

Phill im reet in to my bass fishing been all over country for them and had alot of
sucsses mate.idealy you need a medium to fast action rod to.get the best out of lures mate.
You need to mimic a fish in destress the way i do it is cast out dont start reeling in straight
away as the splash could attract a bass straight away count ten seconds then slow retrive
then a twitch then pause let lure sink if its a sinking lure if floating lure ket it rest on top
of water then slow retrive then a twich then speed yur retrive up and twitch just vary
your speed whils reeling in but twich now and again.or there are controller floats using a eddy eel if you want more info giz a ring mate
