Help with birds nests

Hi all I am new to sea fishing as I have always done carp fishing
I have got a multiplier and beach caster but seem to get a lot of birds nests
Is it my casting technique or the equipment
Please help any advice would be helpfull

what gear are using mate? ie whats the rod? reel? breaking strain of line? weight of lead?
It could be something as simple as the the wrong combination of 2 of the above

What reel? Could be running to fast atm for you untill you get the hang of it

if the spool spins faster than the lead can take the line out it will nest - a few solutions are - use a heavier lead, put thick oil on the spool bearings ,add extra brake blocks,turn up the magnetic control ,screw in the spool screw.

my advice would be to slow the reel right down , and each cast let a tiny bit off until you get to the stage where it almost nests again , then add a tiny amount of resistance. either by turning up/down the magnets or turning the spool screw .

Keep seeing this suggestion about tightening down the reel side plate endcaps and basically it is just bad advice.By doing this you will just be putting pressure on the spool spindle,for no neccessary reason,but what it will do is ware eventually and damage the spindle or endcap or both.

Always have a slight noticable end float movement in your spool by using the end caps or cap when centering the spool,it is what they are there for.Thicker oil in bearings,larger break blocks or extra ones,turn up the magnetic setting to slow a reel is good advice as said previously.Apart from that a smooth progressive cast will help also.

Also, don't forget to stop the spool with your thumb when your rig hits the water - I bumped into a lad once having terrible trouble and he didn't know that you had to do this Otherwise plenty of good advice above.

You wouldn't believe how many newcomers to the game that don't know that Dave, especially if they've only ever used a fixed spool - I must have come across it at least a dozen times!

If he is he'll still damage the spindle or wear the bearings out on most modern reels. Like raptor says a few thou of spool sideplay is advisable. Then more brake block or mag. But guarantee the problem will probably be poor casting style if all the others are adequately adjusted
