Help with rod

Need some advice lads - just got back from 5 hour session with new rod (not a bite but that's another story ) Rod is an RT axe and its brand new first time out with it. Finished the session and was packing up, went to pull the rod apart to put away and the thing seems fused together!

Cannot for the life of me get it apart. This happened to anyone before? Any advice

Right f*ck on getting home! Had to phone my mate with a van to come pick me up. Tried sticking it through the car and out the window but couldnt get away with it. It is fish I want to catch not pedestrians

Try to warm it up spiggots change in different heats when you get it apart you can give it a gentel rub with wet and dry

But befor doing this make sure its not coz you pushed it together to far

if the male spiggot is on the tip section , you can use a socket from a socket set ,as a floating hammer inside the butt and tap the tip out gently ,

Didn't push it together very hard and it didn't take any knocks when I was out.

Had hot water on it to see if it would expand but no luck.....

Had the same problem with a Mk1 TT Sport a few years ago, ended up driving home from Selsey to Portsmouth with the rod poking out of the passenger window like some medieval knight on the jousting court.

Took me a few days to get apart. Put a pair of marigolds on as they will give you a much better grip on the rod, twist the two sections in opposite directons while trying to pull apart. If it doesn't give don't force it, leave it for while and go back to it as it will be coming apart even just a tiny bit every time you try.

Personally I wouldn't take an abrasive anywhere near my spigot, I use the PTFE spray method to keep all mine in good shape; see here for details: Easing tight spigots

I have the female (tip section) propped against the radiator at present to heat gradually and will give it a try in an hour or so. Hopefully, like Stewart said I will get it apart eventually.

That was nearly me jousting as well mate but Eyemouth high street is pretty narrow and I would have definitely skewered someone

Worst case scenario, anyone had one that didn't come back apart?

Wrap a bag of frozen peas or something frozen around the join for a few minutes worked for me years ago after a dozen different approaches

with male spigot on butt as someone has said stick a hot water bottle on female part on tip then what I've used is a couple of strips of that really rough grip tape wrapped around then with a mate(not the wife they just moan your turning to hard or fast and let go lol) twist and pull but don't go overboard and end up damaging as has been said if it don't pop just leave it then have another bash next day.

I had this recently with an Abu Esprit. Think it was caused by putting the rod together in the rain, with the joint getting wet. No way could me and my mate pull it apart. When we got back to the car though, we tried again and it came apart no bother. So probably keep trying it and it will hopefully come apart.

When it does, rub the spigot or male part of the joint with a candle. This definately helps stop the joints sticking. I do this with all my rods(apart from my Abu!), and it does work. Also be careful putting the rod up in the rain.

take hold of the very end of the tip section, get someone on the end of the but section and spin the rod skipping rope action. then twist as close to the spigot as poss.
good luck it does work.

i used cold water to separate my rod . very cold water it worked somehow
