I'm assuming it's on a spool? Just stick an elastic band around it in that case.

i got a load of plastic food storage boxes from wilkinsons, my sppols of line and shock leader fit in no problem, 1 for line, 1 for sinkers, 1 for bits n bobs and another for my secret potions ;D
justtook the sizes of my seat box, then got a range of boxes of different sizes to fit in it

you can get a breakaway set, it has a tray that stores sinkers in it and has 2 clips, one at either end to hold spools of line in place.

i some times use a hacksaw put a little nic in the spool or laggy band

got all my rigs on tronix winders in boxes so dont need to carry line with me just a spare reel in case of a birds nest. Have been after a plano 1084-00 box to store amnesia spools in but cant find one anywhere.

Like cod and chips say's, cut a nick in the edge of the spool to hold the end of the line, and keep them in a clear-ish zipped pencil case.
