i dont know if its true,BUT i heard that the back of the tanks at hendon will be open to anglers, and it will be £40 a year for a permit, anybody else heard of this,if it is true i will be one permit holder,,,

I have my doubts mate but it could be right. I suppose that way they could have a reason to prosecute those fishing without a permit as against those that are trespassing as that is a lot harder I have been told.

I still wouldn't hold my breath though poacher lol.

Wish it could be true, but in the true light of day we all know that just won't happen....for a start. what will you get for your £40?
You can't just be expected to hand over £40 to go fishing, where will that lead to? A tenner to go on Roker Pier, a tenner to go on Shields Pier....before we know where we are, all the local authorities would be thinking "we're onto a winner here!!".
Sorry, can't see it happenning.

might not be a bad thing on shields pier, might keep the scumbags off, and contribute to the cost of cleaning it if need be.

I'd be happy to pay a tenner to fish shields pier If I thought it would be free of eejits and not looking/smelling like a midden

Unfortunately I think this is the state that fishing has got itself into. It's unregulated so as people have said any eejit can go and make a mess without any consequences. I'd personally like to see it introduced at Boulmer for the worm digging to stop the eejits digging where they're not supposed to.
Could it end up that places are made SSI's to stop people making a mess when all it would have taken is for the lazy gets to pick up their rubbish and not abuse the areas they are using.

I wouldn't pay £40 a year to fish the tanks.Its one of the most dangerous, if not the most dangerous, place I know to fish on a big sea. If one comes over the top, the slope takes you down to the water - no railings or anything to stop you.

For the fish you get when its flat, you may as well fish Roker or the Old North piers for nothing.

maybe thats what the £40 a year is for ,,, putting railings up and security guards to check the permits, i wouldnt fish it on a big sea , but when its dieing off,,,

i cant see that happening used to fish there long time ago and like it said up over its leathal not just wave but tiny bit ice underfoot
it would be a good thing if they did rail it off ect but not worth £40

i dont think railings would stop you been swept off there mabee a six foot wire fence so you can cast over the top might be dodgy getting fish in plus probaly wouldnt last very long and the cost of repairing it they have enuf trouble getting the money to repair roker piers railings

there used to be a permit to fish the south pier at one time cant remember how much it was but it was great in the summer when you looked over to roker pier where they were fishing shoulder to shoulder there was never many people on the south pier i would'nt mind paying to fish down hendon fished there for about 30 years now some of the best fishing in the north east if they brought out a pass i could spend more time fishing and less time dodging security guards and camera's

don't build your hopes up there is absolutely ZERO chance of passes being issued for the tanks area, as davey says it is probably one of the most dangerous fishing marks in the north east. i know many on this board could judge whether sea conditions were safe or not but not everyone is clued up.
i think at some point we may once again get access to the south pier via a pass system, but i can't see that happening in the near future. when i used to have a south pier pass years ago we had to sign a document stating if injuries occured on the dock premises the port of sunderland could not be held responsible, which was fair enough in my eyes, however in these days of no win no fee solicitors these signed agreements are not worth the paper they are written on.
