while out fishing today with Paul on Sea Otter from Whitby we got talking about wreck fishing in the winter and the number of fish on them. The conversation turned to wrecks off the tyne and would there be fish on them. Paul was sure just as the wrecks in the south they would hold considerable amounts of fish but to catch you need clear water. The water at about 4 miles off whitby had visibility of around 12ft today max but at 9 miles it is crystal clear.

why is it then that the wrecks off the tyne seem not too fish in the winter.

Two major rivers with in a few miles chucking out dirty water, still alot of coal dust in our area and we may have a different tidal flow passing us. I for one have tried and failed more than once on wrecks over winter thou they do hold fish and JFK always wangles out some.

Simple really you need to go well off and not many boats from the tyne do this

Jfk does and he reaps his rewards

also dont forget that a lot on here pack in very early and then wait for the summer to begin again

I have a friend further down the coast and he is fishing sometimes off the tyne in winter and doing very well

Dont forget the daylight hours are against as well

you might only get out at 8 ish and are having to get back in at 3 ish so not really a long day

and if you are having to travel 20+ miles it soon knocks your day down
