High Winds

Even with the ford that high someone will try and drive over it ,how many times you seen that on the news now!

remember the luton van last year that got stuck, driver rescued by helicopter etc?? Didn\'t make the news, but after they were rescued, the van was there a couple of days. It was loaded with brand new, smeg, range style cookers. The following day, river equally high the van was still there, but the shutter was up and the van empty! Somehow someone managed to not only get to the van and open the shutter but to carry 8 huge cookers back out, all under the cover of darkness!

last tiem I saw the wear as high as this was years ago whjen the bridge at eastgate got washed away. If you got the ford, the river is nearly at road level if that gives you an idea of how high it is!
Is the cooker still working ok Mark

fingers crossed itl die off soon ,more forcast for next week as well

on a bright note its keeping the jobs coming in for us lol fences and trees being our bread and butter this time of year :o

i was stuck in belfast waiting for the winds to die down so the ferry would sail, was a strange site coming over a seeing the other ferry beached ashore at cainryan, pleased i was not on that one though

Seen the pictures on the news Gordon,it looked like it was on the beach but it was a close in shot so it was hard to tell,I was there in the summer,it was a lovely day but its always windy there, must have been wild the other night.

yep gordon right up the beach, at low water looked like they could have used an extension ladder and climbed off...just shows the power of the wind to blow a big lump like that off its berth

Thanks Bob & Alan, to blow a ferry of its berth inside the loch would have been a awesome thing to see.is it above the high water mark bob?

Hope youlads and lasses have got your roofs fixed ready for tonight/tomorrow morning :(
going to get bad again.
We missed the last lot and only had one gust of 40mph. We are expecting 90mph tonight :o

Take care Paula. Im at work tonight and Ive got a feeling that I will be dodging flying corrugated metal roofing sheets. If it gets too bad though I will be staying inside for the night. There is no way that I will be going out and about with those things flying around.

cheers.
george.

phoned my friend up there this morning, one of whom works at the lighthouse

the anenometer on the lighthouse record a gust of over 110mph last night

just been on the phone to the lads in adrnamurchan, flippin eck!, that were some storm up there. his boat is in bits, the mooring lines held but it ripped the stem head roller clean off and playedfootball with his boat. Tobermory, if anyones knows it was flooded. Where we stayed last year, theres a steel bridge over the river to get to the croft. It was found on the beach half a mile away in one piece!
any on that knows kilchoan, the water was up to the shop doorway!
