Had a trip down the Holderness coast with fishingmark and outkast yesterday.
The beach was already busy when we got there but we couldn't see anyone catching. We got set up around half 11, and mark got a Smoothound first cast, (With his new fixed spool reel!).
It was looking hopeful but cast after cast and all our baits (fresh peeler) were coming back untouched, and that went on for hours. What made it worse was that we were getting regular updates from some of the lads fishing a bit further up the coast and they were getting loads of fish.
About half two I went to the back of the beach and found a nice rock to lie on, and was thinking about having a kip, but out the corner of my eye, I saw my rod bend right over to the side. So ran back down the beach, grabbed my rod and brought in my first Smoothound, at 6lb 7oz. (one hook 9" flapper, #1 Manta)
We thought the fish were finally coming on and our interest was renewed...but nothing else happened all day
We finally decided to knock it on the head at half five and make the long journey home.
We were disappointed we didn't get much, but I was happy with the fish I got
