Had a trip down the Holderness coast with fishingmark and outkast yesterday.

The beach was already busy when we got there but we couldn't see anyone catching. We got set up around half 11, and mark got a Smoothound first cast, (With his new fixed spool reel!).

It was looking hopeful but cast after cast and all our baits (fresh peeler) were coming back untouched, and that went on for hours. What made it worse was that we were getting regular updates from some of the lads fishing a bit further up the coast and they were getting loads of fish.

About half two I went to the back of the beach and found a nice rock to lie on, and was thinking about having a kip, but out the corner of my eye, I saw my rod bend right over to the side. So ran back down the beach, grabbed my rod and brought in my first Smoothound, at 6lb 7oz. (one hook 9" flapper, #1 Manta)

We thought the fish were finally coming on and our interest was renewed...but nothing else happened all day :(

We finally decided to knock it on the head at half five and make the long journey home.

We were disappointed we didn't get much, but I was happy with the fish I got

:D

Cracking first smoothhound for you mate. I told you not to mention the fs mate, people will talk lol. At least we got a decent day for it and the travel there and back was spot on with no traffic.

Nice Starry for you there. Shame a few more didn't turn up but it is still early days and of course daylight doesn't help.

:D

Did a lot of Smut fishing when I lived on the south coast and one thing I'd advise is never stray too far from your rod. Even a half decent fish will have your rod out of the stand and away into the sea before you know what's happened. On the top marks like Selsey West and Hayling where big doubles are very common there are lads lose rods and reels on a regular basis just from turning their back on their gear...

I can imagine that! Luckily this one took off along the beach, along the surf line; I think if it had went out to sea it probably would of took my stand over.

aye darkness could possibly be good sport for those hounds but well done on the fish you caught through daylight lads

Ha; cheers mark. I think people are gonna find out anyway about your new reel, you're just gonna have to be fixie and proud!

Cracking sesh lads, thing with hounds it can be hit an miss, they tend to move around a lot, sometimes just up or dwn the coast can be thick with them while you struggle at your venue.
Heavily coloured water is a must in day light,if not, fishing in darkness produces a lot more action.Very very good venue where u was, been producing some right fish of late, big un's at that....Cheers for sharing your session with us,glad u enjoyed it:)
