Off to Ardnamurchan on Saturday morning for a week. Got a lodge on the loch shore and an Orkney Longliner for the week so hope weather is ok. Will post a report when I get back.

I'm up there for a month all being well week after next, pity, as you'll probably be on the way back as we are on the way up.

that Andy Jackson's place??

get him to point you towards Risga Pinnacles in sunart if you fishing from the boat, or try anchor halfway between risga and the isle of carna. Plenty big skate, conger, doggies, spurs, and lots of good pollock there abouts

if you want to fish from the shore, risga rock on the north side or ask him to point you at the sheep shed on the south shore - possibly the best shore mark on sunart

take plenty of tackle, you don't want to be buying it up there, especially not in Kilchoan - £3.75 for a set of hokkais and £3 for a 12oz lead

Yes Mark thats the place at Laga Lodge. Looks nice on their website. Taking a mountain of gear, might have to jettison the wife or one of the kids due to amount. Whats the depth in the loch and can you anchor safely ( tide rips etc)

Hope you and Sandra and the kids have a great time, mate. Good day yesterday fly fishing. I have posted your pic (and mine) on the Longbenton SAC website. C U soon.

its very deep in places, 350foot just in front of Laga! anchoring is fine almost anywhere, and the tide run is pretty predicatable with it being such a narrow, relatively straight and deep loch

the bit on the chart marked ROSS RK (Aka Risga Pinnacles) and the bits marked BROAD RK in between Risga and Carna are pretty good marks

If you do drop the hook, have 3 shredded wheat for breakfast, you'll need it for hauling anchor and chain back up several hundred feet!

the 51 metre hole between Risgan and Carna is a good spot too, had a skate on hokkais there once, in one of andy boats, nearly **** me pants!

the southern edge of the 111 metre countour in front of laga can be good as well, thornies, spurs, doggies etc

loch teacuis to the south of carna is a fantastic place for a day out, real wilderness territory, you'll think your in British Columbia or somewhere!

its a known pupping ground for spurdogs, and there's a halibut farm in there as well so there's often a few escapees, plus a seal colony that's pretty tame for the kids to look at, golden eagles, sea eagles, deer on the shore the works,

the Eastern channel needs caution if you try get down it at low tide as it almost dry's out, can be as little as 4 or 5 foot of water underneath you, crystal clear so appoint a look out - no fishfinders on andy's boats!

Drift past the northern tip of carna with spinning gear, usually plenty pollock there to play with.

If you've never been down the ardnamurchan road, bear in mind it is now 'improved'!! you should of done it 5 years ago with a boat in tow!!

hopefully that should of whetted your appetite! I'm gonna go one year and just not come back

last time we were there, someone had a 35lb conger out from the 51 metre hole the day before

there's some good wild brownies and sea trout in the burns and hill lochs as well

if you want somewhere to fish with the bairns, go to the pier at Kilchoan, drop a float rod down the side with a bit of lug and they'll be pulling in little pollock faster than you can unhook them.

Another cracking spot for spinning and float fishing and very sheltered in a westerley is the old lighhouse service pier at the very end of the peninsula, which oddly, turns up loads of little tommy codling on the float

the beach at kilchoan is awesome for bait digging, black lug like old rope, rag, king rag whites and millions of em, plus if you like mussels, its one of the few places where from a plate of mussels I'll guarantee you a few pearls!

Great info as usual Mark, that is one place I have got to go one day.

Hope you have a great holiday Paul, let us know how you get on mate.

Jim.
