Hooked herring

has anyone ever caught a herring my mate as he was reeling in hooked into its tail on Saturday just about two miles off the shields pier how strange.

I caught thousands when I was a boy back in Germany. They came into the rivers in trillions and all that was needed was some blank golden hooks, fishing from the bank or pier. easiest fishing I have ever been involved in.

I think they are fairly common this time of year from the pier itself at sheilds, ive never caught one personally or seen one caught...

Yer you always get a few foul hooked, if you drop down to very small hooks you can mouth hook them. On the west coast we had 100s in a day but none of any size 8oz best
