how much would i pay for already mag reel??

how much would pay for a 6500 ready to go or maybe 5500 mag up ready for casting as iam wanting some infor or do i start casting with standard reel,then work up to more faster reels . i use a 6500 ct mk2 at the moment

Hi mate your 6500 will be fine to be starting off with, if you can be chewed put some .31mm line on it (most of the field lads use Sakuma Nite Crystal) as this will give you a few extra yards and is standard for the 150g. (other dia are .28mm for 125 and .35mm for 175). Make sure your running line is hi - viz and you are using a .75mm (80lb) leader which needs to be hi-viz as well (and NOT tapered - use standard leader).

If you get along to NESA at Kirkleatham (next one is next Sunday 25th I think) there will usually be people moving reels on and they will be the best people to talk to. But as said see how you get on on the field with your standard gear first - tournament casting can be very addictive but wait and see if the bug hits before shelling out on what is a pretty specialised piece of kit.

No worries. FWIW I paid £110 for my casting reel, an orange 6500 with a QTC frame and a centre mag conversion. Depending on what you want you should pick up an old Ulta Mag for around £70, quality casting reels but difficult to get bits for nowadays. For a 6500 with mag conversion and QTC cage you are looking at anything from £110 to £150 or if you have a spare 6500 lying around you could get a QTC monochrome cage / magged sideplate from Kieth Bartlett for around £135 POD Manufacturing Fishing - QTC Cages, QTC Frames (CAUTION - REEL PORN)

All that said if you have a half - decent rod and a standard 6500 ct 200 yards on the field should be easily achievable with a bit of practice. I can't recommed enough getting down to Kirkleatham, getting a measure on the field and seeing how you get on. Most tourneys are great fun and the craic is brilliant.
