How to prepare cart at home video

Nice one lads, helpful for me this and a lot of other more experienced anglers too I'm sure.

Not far off 1000 subs now

knew about it last year from the whitby lads site, but had never actually used it myself, a lot of helpfull information once again. cheers

For those that have not used cart and are thinking of buying the crab and making it yourself " make sure you ask for (hen) or (she) crabs as these are the ones with the roe eggs in that the fish are attracted to.
Male crabs are no good at all" as this was not mentioned in the video and don't want to go wasting your money on male crabs.
You will have to buy ready made cart for a few months as they have just spawned so the female she crabs are also no good as no eggs in them yet.

I can get a good amount of hermits some with eggs, can these be used as cart bait, can you mix cocks and hens? I have used hermits on boat and shore and caught good fish with them.

Cock crabs work just as well but you don't get as much out off them that's all. They can be watery.

You are right about the cock crabs being full of water but they don't work as well but yes you may catch a fish on male crab but not worth the effort it takes.
If my friends who actually made and supplied those sticks to the tackle shop and to a lot of the lads on here thought male crabs were as good then they would be still making cart but they aren't until the hens fill with berries again.
But they still supply fantastic welsh blacks ;)

after the last 3 cart videos we have put up this must be the most asked question why dont use use cock crab?, ive used it last year and done really good on male crab so we are trying to put together a plan for a video hens vs cock cart what is better, take both cart out fishing over a 2 part show and let the fish decide,
i do think the cheap cart you find online from some bait companys is made out of male crab,,,

You are probably right about the cheap stuff being mixed maybe to bulk it up a bit.
you can easy tell if it has a lot of female or all female by how red it is, if you have used male only then you will know yourself it is totaly green-grey crappy colour where as the cart in your video is bright red-orange which is the roe eggs mixed with the meat that are only in the female and produce that irresistable scent the fish go for' but like you say you have had results with male crab and no doub't you have because after all a bucket mouth cod ain't that fussy what it eats when hungry but as a rule of thumb cart is a hen [she] crab.

More likely it's due to the fact the hens yield more 'cart' and not specifically to do with the eggs. The big bits of custard coloured bits in the males is just as good. Just my opinion on it fella.

Be good to see some results ie hens v cock crabs" but Imo and most good cart suppliers
you will never beat the coral in the she crabs usually August September October and part of November is best time the crab has it
so try to stock up during those months.

I hear scraped out lobsters are also very good and come at only 99.95 per kilo of lobster cart

:p:p:cool:

The berried hen lobster just the berries that the female carries under her tail are leathal for cod' it looks like a bunch of black caviar eggs.
I used to work on a potting boat so used to see them often but these days berried lobster have to be returned back to the see as she will shed them to hatch' not many survive as they will be eaten almost as soon as she sheds so what do survive are precious for next years stock.
Could try bought caviar it might work but not sure if it is pre cooked.

Some of the match anglers down whitby/Scarborough way, actually order males. Cart from Males can at times outfish the females at times. Same with peeler.
