I consider myslef to be a reasonable caster

So why is it that at the UKSF light line event my longest cast with the 18gm plug was with the OTG method - 132.08m

Last Sunday I had my first 240m+ cast of the year and again it was OTG.

I'm all too aware of the mechanics and that everything starts of as it should - but why ?

there most somthing your doing wrong in the set up (ie )lead in the wrong place moving to fast hitting to early all the things i do aswell
arms in a differant position feet not in the same place hand grip differant place just my thoughts which no dought you have all ready thought about .
i can remember asking neil kelland were he practiced ,he told me his garden i only practice the swing to get the lead in the right place as we can all hit it
and ive never backcast over 230 meters never mind 240+

some great casts there Andy m8

But i think you have answered your own question with the set up being spot on lead being where it should and the fact beacuse its not swinging you probably dont rush the cast as much.

couple that with some great conditions and you have the answers

+ you have spent a fair few years OTG casting

LOOK AT Steve Crimmins he can and does hit his leads best from the OTG. He starts to swing the lead and he goes backwards.
With him its a timing thing maybe it the same with you LED your timing maybe a fraction out ?????????

'Fraction' - Is that Seconds, Minutes or Hours on a clock face ??

It's also probably that I'm more relaxed and I can concentrate on what's needed without all the other complications :o

Dave - why is it that the caster cannot see it for themselves

All too often it's advice that has gone the other way that needs to be taken on board

Easier to teach than it is to learn :(

WHY do you think when you tell me i have gone off in one way or another i take it on board
then work on putting it right.
When you slip from the path it happens slow and feel right .
So untill somone pull you to oneside and says that there has been a fault worked into your cast you will not know its there.
GOOD LUCK putting yourself back on the traks LED

Andy,

As of late I've been having EXACTLY the same problem. Ground cast carries farther on most days than the pendulum.

btw, very nice groundcast!!

Tommy

Why Thank you Tommy.

I suppose with me using a fixed spool (spinner) makes it that little bit more special :)

Dave - teachers are always the worst puplis :red:
