I.D.Cards.

85 quid is the fee that has been bandied about so far!

can\'t see how ID cards will help solve crime unless the person that mugs you lets you note down the details on his card or the burglar leaves it behind!

there is so much that has crept in under the wire in recent years, things like the electoral register, crimianl offence not to be on it! They masked that one by saying its your right to vote etc. what if you don\'t want to vote......

I doubt very much that the ID cards thing won\'t happen. The opposition parties are muttering negative things about whilst they are in opposition, but should they get elected it will probably happen any way. The toreis will just say it was a labour idea and labour will say the tories got it wrong

They will supposedly use similar smart chip technology as on current credit cards, so what will be the state of play if one happens to gives ones card a could big blast of static electricity to fry the circuitry in the chip?? who\'s to blame then, not that it will matter as they will have a back up of all the info anyway as they would need it to write the card in the first place, so the cards may just be a ruse to biometric profiling information on everyone of us centralised

\"Apparently\" the introduction of ID cards in France has had little, if any effect on crime rates, fraud, illegal immigration, terrorism etc. this fact alone should persuade us to fight against them. What does happen however is that if you are not wearing a beret and a burglars jumper you are much more likely to be stopped and asked to show your card. Counter culture kids and non-whites, anyone that doesn\'t \"Look Right\" or \"Appearees en peu dodjee\" are constantly hassled.

I don\'t think these cards could ever be that safe Chris and your proposals would be no different to the system we have in place now. i.e. We have to show ID of some sort in certain circumstances (fair enough) already and the police can apply for warrants to allow phone taps, access to confidential files etc.

Recently we have lost the right to remain silent, to spontaneously demonstrate without informing the police, Trial by Jury is off the cards for some defendants, you can now be held indefinetly without trial, supporting workers on strike in related industries is illegal. Unions cannot rely on a mandate given to them by democratic election to call for strike action without a mini referendum, the govs. laws concerning the internet allow them to snoop without restriction, new proposals will allow traffic cops to finger print us at the roadside, mandatory drug testing is becoming ever more popular, benefits will eventually no longer be payed in cash ..............................and the rest

Don\'t let them get away with suckering us into an expensive, insidious scheme designed soley for their benefit.
