I know where the Cod are hiding!

Thought I would let you all know of my hours fishing yesterday. Being a Sunderland lad myself I thought this might give you an insight to why cold night after cold night you brave the wind and rain to throw a tenners worth of rag, muscle and crab in the drink with little to no result...
... Well, Im currently sat aboard a cable laying ship in a bay on the shores of Greenland sitting out a huge storm in the Atlantic. So yesterday we had a rummage round the ship and found a old boat rod and multiplier, probably from the late 70's and a couple of rusty hooks and an old lead weight. So we fashioned a trace and stuck some silver jointing tape to the hooks and over the side it went . lead hadnt hit bottom and there was a huge bite ... 2 codling about 1.5lb each ... this happened again and again and again... 34 codling in less than an hour. needless to say a cracking little sesh that made up for those misrible nights on the rat house in the wee hours of the morning !

So boys and girls ... The cod are out there ... its just a case of looking far and wide !

pics to follow!

Speaking of casting distance i went to 1 of them events last week where you can get your cast recorded.

With a 5oz lead casting from the ground i managed 151 yards with an abu 7000 with 20lb line and a WR300 rod. i am not the best caster but was fairly happy with that until i stayed and watched some others.

My word 200 yard plus was the word of the day for loads of them.

always makes me smile when i hear other anglers saying they can cast 200 yards, yes i know some guys can, i dont say i can (perhaps on a good day, following gale and a seagull carrying it 150 yards), opened a few eyes and dispelled a few optomisic estimates when i attended a casting session on merseyside, a later one that really made me smile, i have just got a new reel, loaded with braid and after bedding it in i hit one with four oz`s, theres a guy standing by me, hes been waxing lyrical about how he fishes at 250 yards plus with a big bait, he then proclaims i have just cast further than he ever could. interesting part is i had 150 mtrs of braid on the reel and it was not all gone, really begs questions :D:D:D:D

yeah people do seem to lie a little lol, i practice cast a lot and have paced out 180 yards on a field and then wrapped tape round my spool so if i get to the tape i know i've hit 180 yards,, practive casting i've managed to hit it 3 times and i get quite close very often but clip on a pully and with a few lug on and i bet you i dont make it over 100 yards.
