I have a flat that my stepdaughter lives in, I rent the other room out to help with the bills, I have it advertised on a few sites. Last week I was contacted by a girl from South Africa, asking if the room was available, If so, could she have it, and her company would pay £100 per week for two months when she was on a training course.
I said yes, as long I recieved payment, and references. After a few emails asking for refs, and confirmation that her company would pay.
Today, I recieved this email.

unless what?

unless they've pulled the whole row down and redeveloped it!

just looked at the postcode in google maps - its for balham, not clapham/battersea (lived in squat there as well as it happens!)

Its a scam of somesort. Either to get your bank details or they send u a cheque for a couple of grand and ask you to send back the differance , then there cheque bunces 6 month down the line.

just had a poke around the domain name for registrant info etc, they own 70 odd other domains, some of very dubious title! the registrant mary CONbell, woodford in essex,

but one of the domains they are tagged onto is

PLAINENGLISHCOMMUNICATIONS.COM which is a bit of a laugh

from the public whois registry:

Owner, Administrative Contact, Technical Contact, Billing Contact:
Best Choice
best choiceplanet (ID00312264)
2 parkland road
woodford, woodford ig8 9ap
United Kingdom
Phone: +44.7930411225

just a case of knowing where to look and what to ask

Whois lookup and Domain name search is a good start

tells you who owns any domain name, and the IP of the server, you can then reverse into the IP of the server and get a list of all the other domains that are tagged to them and their nameserver

hi

hi

get a short term contract made up as a friend of mine let his flat out for 3 month similar sort of thing 9 month ago they paid the 3 month up front still waiting for the other 9 month rent he went around the other day flat empty they done of with the lot got a bill from Kay's just over £4000 for goods the gas/elect just over £1000 & god nose what else is coming in :o:o:exclam:

Nice one mark.
I just recieved a cheque for 4000 euros.

Is that good? I'm confused, has mark proven they are ok and the cheque and deal are a good un, or you are now suspiscious of the whole deal Hiram? I'm following this story with interest but have got a bit confused.

Either way its looking good

a. the deal's cool
b. It isn't but you've had the chance to think twice and avert a burning

Hiram, Beware....once you start with the tennancy agreement you then become a landlord and subject to all the laws and regulations that go with it. One area that landlords fall foul of is when someone takes out a tenancy agreement and they sign to say they will pay you for the next 3 or 6 months, yes they may pay up for a month in advance but what happens when they decide to not pay you anymore ?......simple, they stop paying and under the law they have the legal right to stay in the premises until you sort it out in the court !.....very expensive and a pain in the bum.

Sounds like a dodgy deal to me but if you go for it make sure they pay the full amount up front along with a damage/security bond for a hefty amount which would help to cover any unpaid bills which may end up on your doorstep months later. You can always return the bond after 3 months if everything is OK so long as they agree.

I have no intention whatsoever of cashing the cheque.
I have heard that yuou bank it, and they can either track your account, or they use the fllat, leave, and the cheque bounces 64 days later. or ask for the balance (4000 euros is around £2800, then after you pay them, the cheque bounces.
As for staying in the flat and not paying the rent, legal or not, It would not happen.
Theyd be out on their ar5es, one way or another.

The envelope it came in looks like it was written by a 5 year old.
