If money was no object.....

I thought an older komp ss to help lift fish up pier and saltist 30 for same reason as there is not a big demand for casting far !!
Agreed, but a lot of pier fishing s/s and Roker on certain marks need 80 yards plus to get past the snags, others anything over 60 yards will put you right amongst the worst of it
Most catches off the piers is small to medium fish and it makes it boring as fu*k with a poker and a 525 size reel
Nothing wrong with being prepared with tough stuff gear but its disappointing pulling up a small fish you dont even know is on the end

Hmmm food for thought that, I never fish piers, I was just thinking logically, I thought you would be in for good fish being so far out into sea!!

Well I use a ttr and a saltist 30 or penn 525 for all my fishing as that's all I have and I manage a ok cast, I'm sure a komp ss off pier will fly whatever reel !!

Most of the bigger fish i have seen caught on roker pier have been from the barrier (first gate)
Its less than halfway up the pier and a 60 yard chuck is sufficient, anything more and its just a tackle graveyard
If you move further up, opposite the second steps, casting out to sea if you can cast 100 yards + your on sand, anything less your going to be snagged every time
Closer to the roundhead casting into sea, clean ground 20 yards+ unless a strong pull off tide which will make no difference either way
I dont think there is a perfect rod for pier fishing, i would use the lightest gear possible for maximum enjoyment without compromising enough guts for mixed ground fishing

I fair point m8 me k,ss and abu 7000 ct mag that better m8

Good call, i still would try to use a 6500 size reel unless the sea is up or your fishing the snaggy marks
And a tippy bit of kit like the new apollo match to make the best of it.
F*cking usless in the wind or big seas but a good caster and you never fail to see a nibble

If money was no object I would get the worlds biggest crane and barge and move the pier about 4 miles out to sea then fish over the side with a boat road, long walk back though...

Good crack lads cheers - love the idea of crane moving pier ha ha! Could imagine all regulars trying to get in there with their new prime spot!!

Any rod that an individual owns is going to be the best thing since sliced bread. Personally I have owned and used most top end rods but the rod that has surprised me most is century c3 ld. When they first came out they were cheaper then they are now and for the coin they are awesome. Favorite rod I've owned is the zziplex m4 evo without a doubt. But if I could find one I would have a kompressor international, old yes, awesome ? Absolutely.

Agree 100% but Penn 525 is usually a bit over gunned for pier work especially on the lighter rods. Knocks the balance to sh*t
If its rough ground though its usa penn 525 all the way (invincible)
I use the akios 666 shuttle/7ht on the pier paired with either clubman/conoflex source/imax 5 stroke 6

Best reels ever made IMO

Its all i ever use, anywhere

I think we have a vast aray of rods the do the damage I just think its personal preference with them all one rod doze one perdon but crap for another at end if day I think it gets out of had the rod and reel situation. But hey guess its been like that for years

1 rod i have that i've fished for flattys with but is equally at home landing smoothounds & huss is a zziplex profile evo. Absolutely love this rod. Perfect for the pier i think.

tip tornado sport...

ive been using one for over 15 years, i started with an original formula tip tornado.

if ..... money was no object, id buy a newer one.

i use a 6500 over clean ground and its balanced perfectly but will use a heavier 525 if the ground gets rough.

this rod will happily lob 4oz and a 2 hook flapper for small fish over clean ground or blast 6oz and big bait into the rough stuff if needed.

80% of my fishing is done with it especially match fishing where the bite detection is brilliant.and ive had many double figure rays and huss on it.

Because I use a fixed spool I just treated myself to what I thought of as the "money no object" rod for that game. Yuki Q7 4.5m. Only used it a couple of times but it seems spot on to me.
