Just read on chronicle live page that an empty dinghy was found at sea at Blyth
Not too long ago with fish on board and no occupants an intensive search is ongoing

Every Coastguard Rescue team was out searching last night from Sunderland to Newbiggin.Helicopter and the RNLI was also searching.Nothing untowards was found along the coast.

On Saturday when we started heading back home due to bad weather 11am ish we passed a single man fishing in a off white dinghy. I said to Dave at the time he must be mad as my boat can take a good beating and i was running for home never mind that little thing.

I can't believe anyone would go 15 miles off in something that size - my bathtub's bigger than that! It must have blown / drifted some distance before it was found and if anyone was in it I think they'd be long gone...as the search has been called off I guess we won't find out for a while if no-one's been reported missing.

Gary :)

Update to yesterday's major search for a possible person missing at sea: The occupant of the dinghy, a 40 year-old male, is safe and currently in hospital having suffered suspected hypothermia. He was taken ill on Sunday evening after fishing from the dinghy close to Cambois beach, near Blyth, Northumberland. An 18 year-old relative who had been fishing with the casualty had managed to get him off the boat and remove the outboard engine before the boat drifted off.

Cheers Curtis - that makes a lot of sense now; when I first read about it yesterday evening I couldn't believe anyone had gone 15 miles out in a 7ft dinghy & thought it may have come adrift from a larger boat.

Two people in that little boat!!!!! how did he get cold they must of been just about cuddling.

Well glad he is safe but what a fuel bill for nothing and time spent.
