wheres the fish?

Just a quick question when do the plaice start arriving, is it march-may? I had a very nice one last year from SSP but it was my only one, that was caught late may, just wondering when the main run is and the marks on SSP to catch them, mine was from the 44 mark (I think).

Best baits etc... Heard peeler cant be beaten? But is there any alternates?

Cheers lads :)

Dean.

PS. Anyone who has seen me will know that i had crazy hair... Well now its blue... So dont be alarmed :D

There was an article in Septembers Sea Angler mag last year with Shields fisherman Steve Williams, he reckons the slab area of the pier on a middle sized tide is best for plaice. His biggest Plaice was a 4lber and fell to rag tipped with mackerel, he also mentioned they normally arrive in mid April but last year they arrived mid March but are bigger fish later on in the year.

The 44 mark has always been good for me,with Ragworm tipped with Mackerel the plaice seem to go for very long hooklengths with beads (I use green and black, others prefer there own colour combinations) there may be one or two about already as they have shown up at Roker this week and Shields always get the better sized fish ..

I was at shields pier mid march last year and remember about 5 being taken on the end i had 1 around the 1.5lb mark that day aswell

Since the dredged the Tyne I had a couple1 - 1.5 lb from the Ice Store on ragworm. Fish quay sands just before railings start under Knotts flats can produce with big chucks
