talk to them again, i was with them untill they stopped doing boat cover, they have a sister company who will cover you, it was slighty more ££, but easy, as they had all my info passed on to them from covermyboat

I use Saga insurance for my Arvor 18 this year it was £206 and this covered everything you would need apart from crashing into a oil tanker and causing a spill that killed half the life in the sea

you will pay a bigger premium because it is on a trailer so more vunerable to theft .

I have used Porthcawl for the last few years mainly because i get the cover i want.
One of the biggest problems with the others is the way in which you insured for the distance from shore / port

I have 20 and when needed 40 miles from a safe haven so this covers me fully

check your policys as most will only cover 12 miles and some only 3 miles and some are from point of departure so yoyu guys up the tyne may not have much cover at all

get caught out and try a claim and they will wriggle out anyway they can

I pay around £150 for a similar Predator set up with Haven Knox Johnson. I also had quotes up to £350. I suppose you don't really know how good the insurance is till you make a claim so you may as well pick a cheaper one.

Just a quick one to say thanks for your help Sean. On questioning all of the previous insurers they would all only provide cover to 12 miles except Portcawl who I have went with. The only stipulation they had was that we had an aux engine and DSC radio and then provided cover to 20 miles from a safe haven and 40 on request as you said. Thanks again mate, that's us all insured and ready to go for tomorrow!!!:)

I use Craftinsure and have found them very helpful when questioned about the area covered. Their policy covers a boat in “Coastal Waters” which generally means up to the 12 mile limit. However, I’ve asked about this and they say it’s not defined in their policy and they will cover me if I’m going further out for day trips and not heading off on a longer voyage.

Glad that was a help to you

Why would you want to travell that far
Out £££ waste of money

Because if you did go well off a few times you would see the rewards.

and to be fully covered is the only way get into trouble and have to be picked up then your insurance will not cover.

there was a report online about a guy who was only 1 mile off shore who hit something in the water, lost his boat and then the insurance would not pay out as he was only covered for 12 miles from point of departure.
he had launched up a river and was actually 15 miles from where he launched.

if i can find it i will post it.

Did they give you that in writing as i would ask for it as some when it comes down to it wont. then there are the ones that will give you it in writing but the small print reads classifications of vessel, when you look into it most are cat C and that means 12 miles from point of departure.

Yes, they've done that for the last two or three years for me; I check each time I renew the policy. We don't go that far out very often and I doubt we're any more at risk at that range but it is worth checking.
