is it safe to wear a two piece flotation suit on a kayak.even though you might get a bit warm, what would you recommend wearing if you didnt have a drysuit.
I was tempted by a 'yak as it looks great fun but the reality is it is a very expensive business if you want to stay safe with the kyak itself probably being the cheapest thing you will have to buy.
Floatation suit on a kayak......ABSOLUTLY NOT.....It will not keep you warm if you get a dunking and will keep you afloat perhaps in the wrong position and difficlut to get back on board. If you get Sea Angler read Andy Benhams (writes articles and a book on kayaking) articles which a recent one advised very strongly against it.
The advice is to dress for the sea temperature and not the air temp' just in case ou go in. In the summer you should be fine with a wet suit but unless it is warm enough presume you will be in the water for some time before help arrives. Dry suits are the favoured outer wear by lots of yakers.
You can buy decent gear 2nd hand at a fraction of the cost of new and if/when you sell you shouldnt loose too much if any depending on the deal you get. Yes it is expensive to get started compared to shore fishing but not as expensive as a boat set up.
