Cracking pics Mark. I had to take Yvonne up to Consett about quarter to six tonight and it was snowing quite hard. One car couldn't get up the bank and had the whole lot stopped. we got passed him eventually and had no problems getting up the rest of the way. I haven't a clue what they would do if it was like that lol. It's a long time since we've had it as bad as this Mark, I hope February's not as bad for you as normal. At least it will save you a fortune in deisel and petrol lol.

Just a thought Mark, if you or Ell can't get over and need someone to check on the panser, gimme a shout, I could always pop down in my lunch break.

its getting way beyond amusing now. got to try get out the morra and get stocked up.

to get the discovery from the front of the house to the top of the track (the bit the kids now call 'Ell's ditch' ;) ) took nearly 2 hours - that's to go 150 yards!, all terrain tyres, low range box, diff locks & heavy snow chains

got to sledge it down another 300yards of bendy track with several feet of snow on it yet

the little renault is in the village, haven't seen it for days - the snow plough has buried it several times

thats the main road under there:

It must be quite worrying at times being stuck so far from anywhere. So difficult getting about up there even with the best of gear. It really makes you wonder how the hell people managed before electricity, you would have to spend half the year chopping firewood to keep you warm through the other half of the year.

food's coming to us if we get really desperate. the place is running thick with rabbits, desperate for anything they can find to eat.

took this 5 mins ago from the living room window, just outside the front door where we throw bits of food for the birds, they're scoffing anything they can get

Cheers keith, mucho appreciated, but I think his nibs is keeping an eye on tings (he tells me!)

most of em are like bags of bones, these few are getting well fed by the bairns  Although finn reckons its part of his cunning plan to get them 'pot fit'

was out a couple of days ago with one of my neighbours, (look away now if you're a vegetarianist), had a call from a farmer other end of the village, plague proportions down there and making a big dent in his silage.

shot nearly 200 in an afternoon between 3 of us, hardly scratched the surface, all of em were just skin and bone

the dog is having a field day though, nowhere for them to hide and they can't run as fast in the snow!

Didn't get down today :red: Got booted out of work early and told traffic and roads in Newcastle were super bad so crawled home. Should be ok as no big thaw yet. Must get down the morra. Very kind offer Keith I'll drop the keys off :D

To embarrased to PM

Mark, I've heard that the old trappers would sometimes starve to death on a diet of rabbit, because it lacked the vitamins/minerals/fats we need to survive and it robs the body of these nutrients in order to digest it properly.

Make sure you add some pigeon or pheasant to the stew mate! The mongols and cossacks swore by a cup of hot horse blood first thing in the morning if that's any help!

me and the bairn are off out shortly, plenty pheasant and grouse about as well :D

got the perfect snow drift to hide in and pick a few off,

had another foot or so fell last night, but the wind has picked up and is blowing it all over the shop - snow blower trying to get the road open again:

Aye, we've had a canny bit more by the looks of things. Not been out yet though, got to drive to the Pharmacy to get a prescription for Yvonne as they were closed last night. Was hoping to be able to just stop in today as I've got to go to the Newcastle General tomorrow. Don't want to miss that appointment, I've been waiting since last March for it.

Jim.

My days is buggered as i cannot get to appointment but nothing as bad as those pics.
But i would swap you places to live in a heart beat, would love somewhere isolated

Got to work no bother this morning only to get stuck in the car park behind some woman just skidding backwards and forwards basically polishing the snow into ice. Once she moved out of the way I drove straight in to the space she was trying to get into. Getting out tonight may be another matter :D
