Put my name down. Watching Hugh on latest programme it seems a lot of the mp,s are aware of the problem and something is going to be done about it. The UK minister seems all for it-so thats got to be a good thing.

Cant believe that fishermen could fish knowing than they would kill more by discard than they can land.I know they have to make a living but the only part of commercial fishing thats not hi tech is dropping the contents of the trawl in the boat from a great height killing a lot of the catch before they start sorting.Purse fishing with a suction pipe could be be the way forward but time consuming but this would be a easy way to sort and save a lot of fish.Makes my blood boil just thinking about this.

I only wish the (lying, conniving, self serving, expenses fiddling) MP's would get onboard with this - but I doubt it, or else they will make little difference to the EU dictates.

Just look at the antics of our so called fisheries minister, on Hugh's show, who also, by the way, was the shadow minister for fisheries for years - ie he is not new to the job.

He stressed that he loved fish and that was his job - however he couldn't tell a haddock from a cod or a turbot from a whiting etc - this is the guy who is fighting our corner in the EU...

The people interviewed in Brussels by Hugh, also looked like they didn't give a toss. Making the usual excuses "It's not so easy as you think to get rid of bycatch" - absolute BOLLOX...
