just been told a tip for making the last of the crab in the autumn go a bit further!

it might be untrue but i\'ve no reason to doubt it, at the very least its worth a go. only good for species such as flounders etc though due to bait size. first take three or four juicy peelers, liquidize them (best to kill them first methinks, less ammo for the antis etc) add to a pint of maggots and leave a day or so, the maggots eat the crab and are then impregnated with peeler scent and apparently putting around 6 or 7 on a size 4 hook is deadly for flounders, definatly going to give it a go.
do you think it will work, i\'ve been told its dynamite ?

Why bother, just use the fresh peeler crab, what could be more impregnated with crab scent, than crab.

It may work for mullet, but I think they would be more drawn to the movements of the maggots rather than the crab flavoured scent given off by the maggots.

what i was thinking of is that late in the year when peelers are really scarce and you only have a couple, not enough for a session this may be a way of eeking them out a little further, worth a go i think.

What size maggots are you thinkin\' of using, Micky ?........lol ;)

Seriously though, it does sound like a good way of \"eeking out\" your last few prescious peelers when they are not readily available.

what if it were an edible crab?? would that still infringe the laws?? Buy a big edible from the boats and do the same!

this one could run and run

the maggots you get from the tackle shops have passed the eating stages so they will not eat the crab. The scent must just tinge the skin smell

i knew id read this ,its took me a while to find it though

maggots you get from the tackle shops have passed the eating stages

how about you just take a carton of gunk fishing with you on a warm day and let the flies do what they do best, itl take some bottle keeping it till the eggs/ maggots reach size but the result would be pure crab maggots
wor lass read this as i was typing the verdict was sod off keep em in the shed

why take it with you Bribones- just put your gunk in the shed and go fishing and let the flies find whatever you put out for them- must admit after moving a fridge in the garage after Sless give me his ,i found about 200 maggot cases and 3 Empty crabs that must have done some form of SAS traing to have lept out of the stacking boxes i keep them in ,so them maggots did eat the crabs, might work. :P :P

i agree, but i was thinking along the lines of seaweed flies or other coastal beasties ,as for the shed no way lol i just found out where my lost bit of maccy went from the other day the smell was to put it mildly not nice and my shed doubles up as a workshop, speaking of fridges i need to get one for in there ;)
