Question: When you are fishing for them how are you catching them? Lures? bait?

When i was out on mine i was unsure about what tactics to use etc. Any advice would be appreciated mate :)

Tactics change as the seasons change. Basically its mainly lures and bait on the drift in the summer when the water is clear and smelly baits such as crab mussell squid at anchor in the winter when the water is murky. We also often use ground bait bags in the winter to get fishes interest quick!

This time of year is a transition period so for instance today we drifted a couple of wrecks using lures and baited daylight type rigs before anchoring up on rough ground using bait when the tide picked up.

If you unsure where to go have a look at marine maps on Internet or just fish around the pot flags using baited daylights or hokkias (mussell the cheapest and as effective as any other bait)

Its the same as boat fishing just a bit more fun!

Great report. Can I ask roughly how far off the shore were you at this time of year? Are we talking hundreds of yards or miles? It's hard to tell from the photos. With a kayak I don't suppose you get too far off.

Probably around 2mile (ish) today.

mick if i hadnt of been following u out there today i think i would of turned around at the end of the piers glad you waited on me as i couldnt see you dad till we were about 50 yards from him and on the way back in i never thought i was ever goin to get to the light house it just wasnt gettin any closer but all in all i had a canny day.:

I took the boat out from Amble , some of the swells were really big , I think you're mad for going out in them in a kayak , looks like you had a great day though.
Anyone looking at this post and thinking they should have a yak , think twice ;)

Superb report and photo's. Just goes to show, the fish are still there. Good cod that and a good size wrasse.
Vast improvement davey, but If I ever need a nose job...........:D:D

It's quite safe as long as you carry and wear the basic safety kit and use common sense with the conditions as the rewards are immense to what can be caught in the inshore waters.
