Keeping a Diary

Gonna start keeping a record of each trip (boat and shore) this year...

I know there are people out there who keep their own records...what kind of things to people record?

ive kept a personal record of every cleadon club match for the last 4-5 years.tide times, bait used, conditions, marks, fish caught,oh yes and the blanks

I find it most helpful to record the depth that I have caught at and the weather conditions as this helps me get a good idea of how certain fish will feed in different conditions. Also how far out I am casting and time of day can be useful. Anything that helps me build a picture of the way fish will behave at certain marks. Hope this is helpful.

A very good idea keeping a diary I'm ashamed to say I've always been too lazy

Now keeping a dairy - there's a thought - people will always need milk

and cheese

in the not to distant future charlie you and mark can call it keeping a log.
NOW THATS AN INTRO IF EVER THERE WAS ONE

It's a great idea Tony ,I started simply by making a mental note of marks ,conditions and catches /blanks etc which as time got on I kept meaning to transfer to paper or even PC file ,well it didn't happen and with after thought I wish I had and have recently started from memory although the biggest problem is remembering dates and times etc .

PS note to personal diary , NEVER NEVER EVER go upstairs with the light out and socks on ( wise words from a man that learned the hard way ) ;)

Ritchie's your boy for the diary, he could tell you the time and date, place, sea conditions, what exactly was caught at what state of the tide on all his fishing trips for the past number of years.........and what colour underpants he was wearing!!!

Kept an excel sheet diary for 5 years now, it started as a list and now it has drop down boxes, macros and various graphs attached to it for species/totals etc. Great to be able to look back to a certain date and compare conditions etc when deciding where and when to fish.

I am late at spotting this thread so most prob been said but i have kept one for 19 years now shore and boat.

I record, state of tide ie low high, tide state i.e rough smooth, species caught, location, number of species caught, day or night.

I used to go into more detail but it felt like going over the top

For boat i record locations, tide times that i caught best i.e over slack or drift, boat name, rough ground ro wrecking, species, sea state and rig n bait favoured that day.

I have found it to be one of the best things i ever did for fishing and it is suprising how one year can be very close to next in many years.

tried with a diary for two years .conditions, state of sea ,night or day, ect.know what i found, every tide on the whole is different.
