Kicked off the site.

Well,a was on site,this mornin,when two subby joiners came on,to do some
second fix.Five minutes later,they'd been kicked off,for wearin boots that
didn't have steel toes.
Does anyone else think this health and safety malarky's gone a bit too
far?

Yes matey shocking to be kicked of the building site just for that. Would of took more than that a couple of years back. One of them was good craic as well , sad as man.

In some cases but deaths and serious injuries have come down in the work place and especially in the construction industry

It's the blame culture gone mad, if the guy steps on a bit of timber that has a nail sticking through, then he might sue the main contractor for not keeping the site tidy. we have to wear hard hats, steelies, hi-viz vests, and gloves, and safety specs. and we are inside a derartment store on night shift. dressed like spacemen to fit out a store, just so there are no comebacks on the main contractor, it should be more relaxed as people get stressed under those conditions.

Presumably the lads knew the rules before they went on the site...

twice im glad iv been forced to wear steel cap boots plus most sites rules are posted on the gate of you dont obay ya off there are some stupid h and s for kids but site rules are to protect you

I'm surprised they got on site at all. Safety boots and a CSCS card are a bare minimum these days. By the way I always wear my safety boots at work, I've seen a few nasty things that would not have happened if safety boots were worn and another lad that would definitely have lost some toes without them.

have you ever tried fitting out a Morrisons petrol garage unit wearing steel caps, hard hats, goggles etc. for a fitting joiner it is so impractical when working inside cupboards and under bench tops. Goggles steaming up so you can't see what you are doing.

I've had to change lamps in a BP garage kiosk with the full kit on, totally impractical but that is what BP demanded.

i remember fitting out one station with the old joiner, he did not have his boots on as he said it marked the clean new Formica units, anyhow site HS came in and told him about it, he told him to F off and he did, don't think it would happen today, ya can't even sneeze without them being on your back.

Not really the rules are there for a reason and there not just there to make ur job harder but to protect u and others working around you.

I no soetimes u think it's impractical bu t the rules are in place. For ur safety if something happenins and u have the full kit on at least u u can put a claim in it happens at

Sorry but i have been doing joinery and building work since i was old enough, 30 years and i have more accidents wearing protective gear than not and i'm not a clumsy person by a long shot and i go out of the way to keep myself safe, i mess up i don't get paid. Unfortunately we are now a society of namby pamby wrap you up in cotton wool freaks. And as far as HR is concerned, most seem to come straight from uni or college and have no clue of how the big world works.

just to Finnish off with i am not having a go or a dig at anyone on here because i know how some take things personally and get paranoid they are being talked about in some cryptic way, this is only my opinion.

i agree mate far to much it stops big jobs getting done, theyre a right bunch o puffs these days,one told me to tak me spurs off me whellies the other week so i waited till he took his boots off and left them in the cabin to get in his car to go home,then a had a right old shat in them hahahahahalol
