Kicked off the site.

Its all about £££ We are made to wear protective safety glasses when they are not needed and it is simply because it reduces insurance costs, At Nissan they wear safety glasses and ear plugs and bump caps yet they all walk around on the line wearing trainers  makes no sense

All the big companies like McAlpines, Tolent etc come down hard on non PPE wearers, but the smaller companies would have told them to get their boots on and carry on working....

Take safety harnesses...we always have to wear them in cherry pickers, and never wore them in scissor lifts.....now McAlpines have decided we have to wear them in scissor lifts

Minimum PPE is safety boots, hi-viz and hard hat, after that companies add thier own bits on such as glasses and gloves, tool lanyards etc, in the end its all to put the responsibility on us in case of an accident, and for the companies to have thier ar$es covered..

Aye my mate is at Nissan and was saying the same thing, i think there are times and places for the gear to be worn but also areas where it is not needed. I still think that some things go overboard mind when it comes to HS.

Just to add, i blame the Americans ;)

You would think safety boots would be the first thing there especially working with cars and engines 2ft above your feet

h s +liagation

h s +liagation

it all boils down to greedy workers who sue for the slightest thing firms are just protecting them selfs ps that sould be litigation

Just look as far as the TV/Radio/papers/cold calling/tinterweb all the Ambulance Chasers asking "have you had an accident in the past 5 years" they make a mint out of suing companies, in some/most cases absolutely deserved but the only mitigation employees have is to cover all bases with H&S, no excuses I'm afraid.
We regularly kick contractors off site for H&S breaches but some of them don't even make it through the front gate when it comes to our life critical policies.
Safety boots did save me my toes many years ago when a full 45gallon paint barrel fell from a fork truck and landed square across my toecap. Never had a problem wearing them since ;)
