Had a few hours to kill, so decided to get some worm and go down the beach, in reality was really looking forward to trying out my new waders.
Am wondering if I am doing anything wrong when beach fishing as that's 3 times I've been and blanked? Yet I have heard that there is some big fish being pulled in all over the north east coast! Not sure if I am not casting far enough, wrong rig, wrong depth, wrong time, wrong tide or just wrong everything.
Any tips would be apriciated.

I am not the best to give advise. But I have had one or two from Whitley Blyth, tynemouth. I feel that 2 hours before low and 2 hours after and a BIG sea. The bigger the better the sea. Fish it like for a couple of days on the big sea and after it has calmed down. But like I say I am the king of catching nowt lol. But that's fishing.

Were you down during the daytime? Beaches round here only tend to fish in darkness, unless you're after flounders & the like. At King Eddy's, you're much better off fishing the rocks either side at low water, or off the prom at High water (and you can still get onto the Castle Rocks side at high, particularly on a smaller tide). Plus, the beach at King Eddy's is not particularly productive anyway - you'd probably have more success at the north end of Tynemouth (around the Stony Bottom / Boiler areas) or at the south end right by the bathing-pool skeer.

Daytime's more about fishing the rocks & kelp, although you will catch codlings from the likes of Whitley beach in the daytime so long as there's a good sea on and conditions are right. About the only chance of a codling in daylight from Tynemouth beach would be from Slatey Gut (right at the top end) or around the corner in Cullercoats Harbour and again only when conditions are right.

A bit of crab & mussel in addition to your worms might help as well.

if your fishing the beaches mate, Might be best to start with fishing a wishbone rig. Or 2 rods one with a wishbone on and the other a Pennel with a big cod bait on. Hope that helps
