hi ladds sorry for the late update.... we arrived 8am and were greeted with great fishing weather.so ou came spinners and floats ..fished all day and knot a sniff but to be honest we wernt exspecting to catch owt ..it was just a trial and error thing got some nice pic off the coast though and also off my bloody broken toe wich i did up their when i kicked the biggest rock i could find lol

Hard luck mate, still a tad early for up there. Start of may is useually when the fish start arriving up there.

Rocks are big, dont pick fights with them, they allways win :D
 
i know m8 we fish up there every year and we do port logan just thought we give it a try a see if owt comes off it ...well got a broken toe lol....;)
 
yeh got the wife but she be nee good as a nurse more like her from the filim misery oohhhh!!! dont fancy my anckles broke never mind me toe:D:D
 
great pictures did you not fish the bottom for a few doggies ,that looks like a painful toe ;)
 
Going up there for my annual week again 3rd week in May. Last year just got doggies and flatties but hoping for better this year. Tried various rock marks behind the caravan site but found them to be very snaggy and hard to access. Could anyone suggest a good mark for a chance of a codling or even maybe a bass ?

The rock marks behind the caravan site have always produced fish for me the ground is very snaggy yea thats why it fishes very well as theres lots of places for the fish to hide/live basic rule of thumb is the harder the mark is to get to the better the fishing will be as its mainly never been fished
 
Many thanks mate, I guess I am just a little inexperienced at this rock fishing game, my problem is I lose confidence quickly if its really snaggy as I think even if I get a fish on no chance to get it out. Problem was a couple of places I tried I was stuck fast every cast. Is it necessary to distance cast to get beyond the rocks ? or would it be worth trying a kind of rotton bottom rig ? I was just using normal pulley rigs. Tried the float with ragworm but that wasn't working for me at all.
Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.
 
Depends on what your targeting mate judging by the picture of the sea above there wont be many codling of any size kicking about its the time of year where winter species leave and were waiting for the summer species
If your wanting to botton fish look for outcrops in the rock or look around at low water for any gulleys fish might be holding in

From the back of the caravan site head along the coast and keep going untill you see a large flat rock ive had lots of decent fish from there and the whole area tbh
For some easy fishing head through the woods on the caravan site to the slipway and fish into the bay the beach will be on your left hand side dont bother with the beach as its too shallow
 
Many thanks for the advice mate, I will try the slipway for sure. Still confused about the rock marks 'though. I walked the whole coast along there several times up to the point at the end where there is a large inlet and you have to then turn right (away from the coast) to follow the path around the golf course back. I heard about the large flat rock as being a good mark but couldn't work it out. How far along is it ?
 
Its a canny walk like but if u take your time you will find it just have a good luck around as your walking watch your step as the path can be a bit slippy in places
Tbh mate if you can find yasel a nice ledge to fish from into deep water above the tide line you should be able to fish any time it can be hard work on your arms and shoulders but the fish make up for all the aches and pains
If nothing shows you should still expect to pick up lots of doggies, you dont always need to cast very far neither sometimes just a flick will do

Many thanks mate, as I said last year I just had flatties (I guess they were flounder) and dogs. I had frozen crab but it was the only bait I didn't catch on. I guess I never walked along as far as this flat rock. It must be after the end of the golf course. But I will find it this year. What bait would you recommend? I found worm best for flatties but the dogs went mental for frozen squid.
 
Crab baits are best mate other species are harder to catch as the ground will be covered in doggies not to say they arent there mind around by the slipway is where you would go to collect fresh carb in the summer months

Have a try for pollock and wrasse freeline/spin a frozen sandeel or ragworm and use baits on the bottom close to rock ledges for wrasse
 
Yous talking about brighouse bay ye? Ive fished there myself.. Dunno what the marks called we fished but its produced some fish for myself and 2 mates of mine. Going up there again hopefully end of this month somtime :)
 
Yes mate brighouse bay fish any of te rocks behind the caravan site and you shouldnt go wrong like
 
I'm heading over that way tomorrow, Borness, so will hopefully have a catch report to post when we get back full of doggies, thornbacks and maybe even a conger from the shore.
