knots

Been reading the lines thread, my lines seem to part company around the knots. I've come to the conclusion I'm stretching the line when tying the knots and have come across the Palermo knot which seems less prone to this and quite easy to tie. - any comments?

Also when tying onto weights, clips or swivels does anyone use tubing (such as electrical sleeving) as a sort of bushing to protect the line against abrasion from the metal eyelet.

plenty of spit mate and pull together really slow . leave a longish tag and trim it back .

I use a good size snappy link ,lead to line . never had a one fail yet .I never tie line to lead , the wires are too thick and the knots pull out .

as above lubricating te knot will help . i do use silicone tubing to protect knots too.

for tighter knots, and less chance of burning the line - rub a bit of chapstick on the knot instead of using spit - better lubricant than spit, gets a much tighter knot.

I got that tip on here somewhere and it works.

I make my rigs up at home and put spot of rig glue on the knots
never had any bother with then slipping

Knots will almost always be a weak spot, unless you tie everyting with a Bimini.

No bad thing IMHO. When I'm fishing clean - mixed ground at range with 15lb line I want the break to hapen at my leader knot. That way all I lose will be the shockleader and the rig. A over strong leader knot risks a random break in the mainline possible losing 120 yards plus of mainline.

not a wind up mate, I'm sat making some rigs right now, and ive got my Chapstick out! It works a treat.

Any brand of lip balm would do..I have tried Vaseline but its not as good.


I never knew there was such a thing as rig glue, might look into that myself
